Deal of the century or big disappointment incoming?

I hear ya! I like higher color/clarity stones myself but I stopped at G to get the size and clarity I wanted. But I am totally fine with anyone who chooses to pay for D-F. There is no reason for a stone with SBF to be worth less than one without it as long as there is no haziness in the sun. I really do think the tide may turn and they will become more popular as vendors like Brian Gavin promote them. And I think it may happen due to the fact that diamonds are so high in general right now. Once they become popular, then prices will rise. Then we'll be glad we got them when we did! :D I traded an ideal cut G VS1 with no fl. for one with SBF because I wanted it!!! I think the glow under UV light is amazing!!! If you don't yet have a UV light, this is a cool little one that I ordered:

Shine it to the side of the stone, not directly at the top.

You see no blue 99% of the time. You can see in my sunshine pictures an extremely light lavender tint. I don't think most people would notice it, but I think it is beautiful!

No, your reason for the blue-white becoming unpopular is not correct, I don't think. Let me see if I can find the article about it.

This is not the history article, but here is some very good info on fluorescence:

Or put another way, SBF decreases the value of a D color stone much more than it decreases the value of a G color stone. In fact, SBF slightly increases the value of a J/K color stone too IIRC.

This seems to be true. A D-color gets hit much harder by flu than a lower-grade color. I'm not sure why, either, because as I understand the history a blue-white diamonds were ideally D color (again, I'm a rookie so please correct me if my history is wrong). Perhaps it has to do with D-color buyers being color sensitive and therefore naturally wanting to avoid any color that would be produced by flu... makes sense.

HI:

D is colorless therefore what benefit is realized with flouro other than (diminished) cost or "cool" factor?

I think that's all there is. I mean there's no real benefit to the diamonds in the first place, so it's just about how they look.

I understand lower grades can appear to have less color due to flu and the exact opposite is happening with a D diamond where you're actually adding color under certain types of light. So, if you don't like the "cool" factor then flu is taking away from the value of the colorless diamond. If you like the "cool" factor then you have a diamond that is colorless under certain lighting conditions and has a blue tint under others.

The diamond is... amazing. Absolutely stunning. In regular light it's as bright and white as I've ever seen. In sunlight it takes on a soft blue glow... I love it! Let me see if I can find out how to post pictures...

I am glad you like it!

WHERE BE PHOTOS!

I've tried to take some with my iPhone, but it's really tough to get it in focus. Any suggestions?

Otherwise, I've arranged for a photographer during the proposal on Saturday so I'll have photos next week at the latest.

I truly love this stone!

Oh yay proposal pics!!!

Do you have an iPhone 4 or 4s? The 4s obviously works best of all the iPhone cameras but the trick really is to be about say 6-12inches away. It's easier to go into a photo editing program later with the pic and crop it down.

Sorry for the blurry pictures, but it's the best I could do for now (at work and the guys think I'm nuts)

Looks lovely! I cannot wait to see proposal details/pics and even more shots!

Wow! I can see why you fell in love.

HEY!! :wavey: That's amazing!!! :appl: GORGEOUS!!! I'm so glad that it worked out well - did you get the report back yet?

It is really a beautiful ring - she'll be thrilled! Can't wait to hear about the proposal :D
