If you watch old westerns you will see them biting gold coins all the time.
There is truth to it being used to test if the coins were actually gold.

edit: the picture actually shows someone testing a coin.

Silver next to Gold that rubs together will get eaten.
White gold is worse than yellow gold.
 
Diamond prices are based on weight not size would also be more correct and an interesting blurb and is correcting the #1 myth of them all.
