So, I spoke to Yekutiel from IDJ. He has a diamond that is 2.457 ct RB, I, SI1 (eye clean), AGS0, HCA 1.1.
Although he did say he sent it to GIA as well, and the report came back as J, VS2, X VG X. Go figure! =) So this is probably a high J, low I.

Report: AGS
Shape: Round
Carat: 2.45
Color: I
Clarity: SI1
Cut: Excellent
Measurements: 8.76-8.81X5.25
Depth Percentage: 59.00
Table Percentage: 57.00
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None
Culet: None

Photos below:

He gave me a reasonable price so I am taking it. Yes, it's lower color than I had wanted, but hopefully I won't notice it as much. I have an H now and it looks icy white to me when in a setting.

And here is one thing just for fun... Remember how I was considering a 2 ct? I made a photoshop version of both of them, TO SCALE, and made a comparison of why I am paying 21% more cash for an 18% bigger stone, lol. Anyway, I have decided I am going to take this stone from IDJ because it's very close to what I wanted and also their upgrade policy is more flexible than JA. Can't wait to see it in person!!!!!!!

Congratulations! Have you decided on the setting yet?

Super!!! :appl: (I am really concerned about the AGS/GIA color discrepancies in general, though.)

How so?
You think it makes the whole color grading a little unreliable? Frankly, I am not surprised at all since they pretty much use their eyes and compare to master stones. Seems a little archaic, don't you think?

Congrats on your new stone! You seem very excited and I'm sure it will be very beautiful.

If it's the difference between a low I and a high J, I doubt seriously that the difference in those two colors is easy to discern. I understand that there is a price difference but an AGS I will always trade as an AGS I. I think it is wonderful to have two opinions on a stone and yet still love the stone for the stone.

I've just seen too many color differences between AGS and GIA at this point. It seems that when a color is borderline, AGS bumps up and GIA bumps down. The buyer benefits from the GIA grading because they don't overpay for color. I hope you are paying J VS2 prices.

And yes, surely there is no excuse with technology as advanced as it is not to have accurate color grading.

Yes, I am super excited! A little apprehensive about my decision to go larger, because of the extra $$$, but something tells me us women rarely regret going bigger when all is said and done :naughty:

Yes, he is giving it to me for $20,000, so that's in line with both reports if you compare to say, Bluenile or B2C (who typically have good prices).

I won't lie, I do worry a little because I initially was hoping for an H and then eventually decided to go down to the high I's. Now this one is a low I, but let's just hope strangers won't be coming up to me with a white tray and turning it upside down  .

great rock....i just bought a similar stone and paid a bit more.

I think you made the right decision in going bigger, it looks great and youre happier (which is priceless)

when you set the stone in a white gold or platinum setting the color will prob look like a g/h so dont worry about the discrepancy

congrats

True, those videos are pretty good at showing just how small those differences are... when you are up on a galloping horse.

I think you made a great choice! You're right - no one ever regrets going w a bigger diamond! ;)) I think you'll be very pleased w it once you have it (really!) in your hand. Looking for ward to your update when it arrives!

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I sincerely hope you love it! The price sounds very good! I assume you have a return policy, right? I recently tried a low I and a J stone and couldn't make the leap because I most definitely saw the tint face up. No one can predict whether you will like that color or not, but the stone is a great price if you do!

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

It is beautiful.

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

Congratulations! Looks like a stunning stone!

What is IDJ's upgrade policy on stones, if you don't mind me asking?

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I'm so happy that I recommended IDJ to you and everything worked out! Can't wait to see the stone on your hand!

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

Their upgrade policy is somewhat flexible, depending on the price of the original stone. Basically, as long as it's a substantial enough price increase so they make money they'll do it.

The return period is 30 days. Diamondseeker2006, now you are making me nervous :? What if I am more color sensitive than I think?

Sakuracherry, thank you for the recommendation! I can't wait to see it on my hand!

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

It is not my intent to make you nervous! But I am just trying to prepare you to carefully examine the diamond in all lighting and be sure you are okay with it. Everyone pretty much has some color limit. I felt the J stone I looked at didn't look good with my sparkly white diamond band. I could see the tint face up in some lighting when I could not in my G. But the size may be more important to you so you may not care about the color, and that would be great! I just worry when the group encourages "the bigger the better" idea when some people are not going to like J color. Whiter stones have a brighter appearance. This stone might be great, but you need to see the stone to know if it is for you or not!

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I will definitely examine it very closely, and if I don't like it, hopefully I'll be able to exchange it for something whiter. Bigger IS better for me (hahahahahaha!!!!!!) but I agree, I do have my color limits as well.

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

Wait a second, is the cut grade ideal or excellent?

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I assume it'd be graded as AGS 1 or 2. The old report doesn't assign light performance and cut grade.

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I see, I need to correct the AGS0 part in my original post because it was my own assumption. I mistakenly thought GIA excellent meant AGS0.

Given that... do you think I overpaid? HCA score is low and Yekutiel say it's a very very well performing stone.

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

I've been trying to find price comparison for you, but it's hard. AGS excellent = 1 in newer reports. If I was a diamond dealer and had a stone that received excellent from GIA and 1 from AGS, I'd probably use the GIA certificate to sell the stone.

Here are the two closest comps I found:

http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?track=NavDiaSea#diamonds_pid=LD02363049

These are GIA XXX, mine is GIA X,VG,X. The HCA scores on them are 1.9 and 4.0 respectively.

Re: Decision made! 2.475 ct round brilliant from IDJ (Photos

What I've been trying to find is an AGS 1 or 2. As you may have noticed, the GIA excellent category is so broad. If there are two GIA ex stones, one can receive 0 while the other can receive 1 or 2 from AGS.
