Fascinating how countries start & end, grow & shrink, combine & split.
It's hard to count how many countries morphed into one Germany. :eek-2:
Imagine all the blood spilled over 580 years.

So much for Putin's argument that Ukraine "belongs" to Russia ... because ... well because ... it used to. :wall:

Nationalism is a ruse.
As that saying goes, "All Things Must Pass".

When you get to the map, click on it for more detail.

Maaaan, Lithuania got the short straw.

All those countries that morphed into Germany were like counties, probably spoke the same language, most of them at least. It's the same for several European countries if you take a second look.

Nationalism is not a ruse, people paid in blood for the preservation of their language, culture (identity) and borders.

Countries exist because it's better to live in an organised society, within the walls of a citadel, in a state that's part of a country, than to live in a village part of a small tribe, that gets invaded/ plundered by the nasty neighbours.
People used to get attacked and got deleted in their homes, or while travelling because other people attacked them to take their stuff, remember those times? Imagine going to the market and never coming back, because you got ambushed. The end.

Since those things are still happening and with better weaponry, it seems we haven't changed much in the past 580 years.

Yeah nah, not the same but I get your point.

We are still waging wars, yes, but we don't live like in the vikings series, let's be honest. If you have a problem with your neighbour you're not gonna throw an axe at his skull, are you? Who even knows how to throw an ax anymore? Nah, we have soft hands now, we apply sunscreen whenever we get out.
