I know Dr. Khoury, although I have never been in the OR with him. He''s a good surgeon.
The actual operation is very quick (about 40 minutes) they put a harpon (that''s how we say it in french) through the mass, and then they cut around wide margins. They then do a ganglion sentinelle (depending on the surgeon/ echographic details) and usually take the ganglion out. If the ganlion is cancer free then it means that the cancer hasn''t spread yet.
After the pathologist will check to see if it is hormone responsive (if it is then that''s another +++ in the prognosis), because then she can usually have hormontherapy, radiotherapy and tamoxifen. In any case, I am really big on positive thinking and visualization, so project the most positive outcome you can.
