Honestly Robbie, being in the industry I have to agree with you. Just because your DH loves the people he works with does not mean that he should stay. People come and go, and if you DH does not see any future growth in that company (not even monetarily but also with responsibility) then I think you should really talk about if this is the best thing for him to stay.

All I do know is that I live in an expensive area and if I wasn''t getting paid what I was worth I would leave.

If he can''t move up then I think he should definitely leave. I was thinking that all along, but I think it''s awesome that he likes the people and the job. It''s just the pay that sucks.

Hi Robbie
Since I used to be an engineer (albeit for a short time) I have some points to add on this subject:

1) 3 years is a long enough time at your first engineering job and he should be able to use his experience as a stepping stone for a bigger and better opportunity. Most tech companies try to pay their "entry-levels" at a competitive rate so if his company is way below that, it looks to me like a dead-end job (relatively speaking) and he should try finding another job ASAP

2) I left my first job as an engineer after 2.5 years of being there and got a 17% raise on my 2nd job. Most of my friends who have also been out of college for 4 years have also left their first jobs out of college and moved on to bigger and better things with a jump in salaries between the two jobs. So your DH should have no problem getting more $ somewhere else especially since he seems like a top performer

3) Family, COL, Money, Work/life balance, as well as collegial working environment are all important. Although he likes his coworkers here, this is his only experience so I mean while that is a factor it should be weighed a lil less than ''being close to family'', and ''more $''

4) Job satisfaction and being appreciated at work is a HUGE factor in a person''s happiness. Spending 8-9 hours a day at a job where he feels that his superiors don''t value him is definitely going to have a negative effect on him.

5) bottom line --> I think that after a few days of "cooling time" you should definitely support/encourage him to look for another job.

Ok sorry for the long post. I hope your DH and you resolve this soon!! Good luck!!
