Hi everyone!

I've only posted once before, but I had lurked here for quite a while before I was engaged. I've tried to do as much research as possible on this particular topic, including reading through previous threads here on this site. This comes up because of a thread on weddingbee (a very large primarily wedding-related forum, for those of you who aren't familiar!). Someone had asked if a diamond appears blue in sunlight does it have fluorescence?

My diamond has no fluorescence (it's an E, VS2 just for reference) but it without a doubt shows blue in sunlight (ONLY with a blue sky). I guess I had assumed any diamond, regardless of the presence of fluoro, would look this way under those conditions. But a user over there mentioned she has 3 diamonds all without fluoro that have never looked this way, and she previous had one that did have fluoro that exhibited this characteristic.

I'm looking for more info from you all. Have all/any of your diamonds done this? What do you think is the cause as to why some do and some don't (regardless of fluoro)?

Here is a photo of my diamond from last summer. Obviously, it was taken in sunlight with a blue sky (taken by an iPhone and then enlarged, which is the reason for the graininess).

Blue sky reflection. The person on the other board just doesn't know what she is talking about!

it's just reflecting the color of the sky. nothing to worry about. If you wear brown or pink clothing and snap a picture of the diamond, chances are, the stone would also pick up some of the environment color.

A diamond is like a mirror, reflecting the surrounding colours. My diamond also looks blue outdoors on a sunny blue sky day and it has no fluorescence.

That's exactly what I figured, but people keep saying it's only with fluoro diamonds and their non-fluoro diamonds don't do this. Honestly, my e-ring is the only diamond I own (besides some very small earrings I've had forever), and I have nothing to compare it to. I assumed every stone does this (reflects the sky). Why would a stone not? Or is the answer still that they don't know what they're talking about :cheeky:
