After looking through some of the archived threads on diamond cleaning, the general consensus seems to be Sharper Image Ultrasonic cleaning machine and/or the Jewel Jet steam cleaner. However, all those threads are old and SI no longer is in business. I am trying to figure out what to get since the SI ultrasonic is no longer sold. Should I get the Jewel Jet and another ultrasonic machine? Should I get ultrasonic only? If so, which brand/model would you recommend? Should I just use the steam-wand from the espresso machine? This community has been great with educating us newbies on buying the right diamond and giving overall great advice. Some advice here would be appreciated! :)

no experience with these, just bumping. am also curious.

Anyone?

I have an US with a stainless steel tub that I found on Amazon, and it has worked great for over 2 years now. I also have the Jewel Jet steamer. I use the u/s more frequently, but I use the Jewel Jet for deep cleaning my wedding set and 5 stone ring maybe once a month. Both give great results. The steamer is very forceful, and I wouldn''t use it frequently, but it gives the best cleaning IMO.

Well, I use the US before and my automatic espresso machine (15 bar - not sure of the psi but read somewhere that 9bar is equiv. to 135psi, I believe JJ has only 25psi) after for steam cleaning my diamonds. The result is excellent!

the key is not the brand, but where its made. i recommend a all steel model that''s "MADE IN THE U.S.A" or Germany, they last forever !!

I''ve gone through 5 US now (3 pretty cheap the other 2 around $100). The last one was a steel tank but the cheap plastic around it started to leak. None of them lasted worth a darn for me. I have the Jewel Jet and it works great. I just soak my jewelry every evening in jewelry cleaner and use the JJ on the weekend for pieces that might need it.

Thanks to all who replied! Do you guys think getting a JJ is a worthwhile investment given that I have an espresso machine that delivers 15bar steam?

One would reason I would have tried this out already but she isn''t living with me yet so I can''t check.

that''s reason i''ve always recommended buying a well made one from the start, cuz it last forever.

you could of purchase an "all steel" for about $175 then it would still be working.

The espresso machine does NOT deliver 15 bars of steam pressure. The pump is capable of delivering 15 bars of pressure to the GROUP. The pump is not related to the steaming power of your espresso machine.

Mine does, really! My machine is Jura Impressa F90. It does eject steam pressure, regular hot water and cappuccino froth milk. As I mentioned, the result is excellent!!!

Sigh.

The pressure from steam and the pressure from the pump are two different things. The only thing making that steam pressure is a heating element, heating liquid water into steam. That steam has nowhere to go. When you release it, voila, steam pressure.

Now, is that steam pressure sufficient for jewelry? Generally, yes. Is it 15 bars? No idea, I've never wanted to be burned.

Update: Over the weekend I cleaned her ring with water/windex, then steam-cleaned it using my espresso machine. The results are brilliant! I think when we move in together, I can clean her ring weekly with the espresso machine steam so that it doesn''t accumulate too much crud and will always look like new.
