Diamond on hold for 24 hours...your thoughts please?

I spoke with the JA gemologist this morning...

She said they were all equal as far as cut and performance (as the idealscopes confirmed).

The first diamond (I, VS1 - After Pricescope discount: $3,890) she said was towards the higher end of the "I" color spectrum (meaning closer to H, than J). Regarding the little black speck, she said it would be very, very difficult to see (she hesitated to say you would not be able to see it at all - I guess they have to issue some sort of disclaimer - , because some people have tremendous eye sight)...she said it's hard to locate under 10x without knowing it's there.

The 2nd (H, VS1 - After Pricescope discount: $4,300) was a mid-range H on the color spectrum and looked good.

The 3rd (G, VS2 - After Pricescope discount: $4,520) she said looked strikingly whiter than the other 2...which I guess is to be expected. However, my concern is the feather. She said it shouldn't pose an issue and can be set under a prong. It would be very tough to see with the naked eye, but again, she hestiated to say for sure, due to levels of eye sight. I asked her for detail about feathers and she said it's defined as a crack that has reached the surface - otherwise, if it doesn't reach the surface, it's just a cloud.

She recommended the G, and felt that VS1 was a little overkill for color grades of H and I...but she also said that she tells people she knows (i.e. friends) to go with H color or higher.

The setting I'm leaning towards (I posted a few threads back) has a basket and will allow the diamond to be viewed from the side.

True to to the title of this thread...the diamonds are on hold for 24 hours.

What to do, what to do... (?) :?

It's coming down to decision time and I'm looking to my friends in the PS community. I welcome all of your comments/thoughts and hearing what you would do in my postion!

If I were you, I would get Diamond 1 (because I know I would never see the speck, and if I did, it would not bother me compared to the lint that would be on the thing anyway).

If you are worried about the speck, I would get Diamond 2.

I wouldn't get Diamond 3.

There have been a couple PS threads about feathers set under prongs that crack in the setting or at some later stage...if it were some other type of inclusion, I'd prong it, but not a feather. Also, Diamond 3 is only perceptibly whiter when placed next to an H and an I. If you just saw the H or I, I don't think you would think it was not white. (If that makes sense.)

Ya, I understand budget creep.

I would go with the I VS1 unless you are sure you can see the color.

My preference is with the second (H) stone, I love small tables (= higher crown), mine is 53.7. Also a Canadian (AGS Ideal) diamond from the Ekati mine. Having said that, all three diamonds will be beautiful, if you are at all concerned about the inclusions on the first, or third, or need the mind clean aspect of a diamond then you will possibly have your answer on which one to go with.

??

Thanks for the comments everyone...

As of right now, I think I'm leaning towards the 1st diamond (I, VS1). I'm uneasy with the feather in the G, VS2...and I'm not sure it's worth the premium to go up 1 color grade from I to H, when the gemologist said that the "I" was a highly rated "I" and closer to the "H" end of the spectrum.

I'm going to make a final decision by tomorrow morning (Thursday) and contact JA.

Please feel free to add any comments, thoughts or advice that may help me in finalizing my decision.

Thanks again! :)
