So lets say the idealscope image comes in and looks good. Then I decide to buy the e-ring. When I receive it I would take it to a appraiser right? Then he would give me a value of what it''s worth. So once I have that I contact my insurance company to get it insured? I just want to make sure it will be covered if the diamond is ever lost. Thanks for all the help and opinions, I thought I knew a lot about diamonds because I read up on the 4 c''s. Boy was I wrong, there is so much more to it than that.

Update: Diamond is on hold, just waiting to see he idealscope image. They are also going to check for me if the diamond faces up white. What does that term mean? Just that it will give a white apperence looking directly into it? Thanks guys

Yes, your thought process here is correct. Many people use Jewlers Mutual and Chubb to get insurance just for their ring because it is comprehensive and easy to use. Others add it as a rider on their insurance policy.

re "faces up white" it means that they will look at the diamond and see if it shows any body color face on. That will not be an issue with a J color. If the color shows up it will be from the side, for example when your gf is typing on her keyboard and looks down at her ring on her hand she will see it slightly from the side. Unless you or your FI are diamond junkies or really know diamonds well and have color preferences, you will not notice warmth or be bothered by it I would guess.

Thanks Dreamer. That really eases my mind on this diamond being at the bottom of the near colorless chart. So would it be smarter to just add it to my insurance policy or get a Chubb?

Well I have an Idealscope image but this site won't let me upload or link to it. Any suggestions? I've already read the "How to upload pics" thread too.

is the size of the image under 100kb and use a random name for the file name?

Worst case, message the admin and ask for help.

Ok I think I finally got it to work. Here it is

Looks good.

So looks like a good bet for 4,200. Thanks to everyone on this site for your wisdom and help.

Beautiful! Nice IS image.

Lovely IS image.

As to insurance, the price of adding a rider and getting an independent policy are comparable in my experience, but I personally noticed that Jewelers mutual, for example, had a more comprehensive policy with fewer excluded perils, so that is where I will be getting my insurance. Chubb is not available in Canada, so I have no experience with them,

Very nice IS

Thanks guys. I'm really starting to worry about the J color though. It's going to be in a white gold cathedral mounted band. Maybe I should have tried to get and eye clean S1 with a color around G/H? I will try to get some pics of it up when it gets here. It is supposed to ship out Feb. 3 overnight.

Any opinions on the J color in white gold? Plus if I don''t like the color when it gets here Thursday does anyone know how long the turn around would be to get another diamond from JA?

J colour in white gold still looks plenty white to me, I think you will be ok but you will soon know. In the rare case you weren''t happy then the turnaround wouldn''t be too long, just the return of the diamond, selection and mounting of the new one and the time it takes to get to you. I believe the vendors require returns to be sent USPS Registered Mail which can take longer but it is the most secure method. Its a very well cut diamond, IS image looks great so see what you think.

To me, J color is white and I think it''ll be lovely! I am not color sensitive though. It''s one of those things you have to judge for yourself. I am sure you will be pleased.

Well I got the ring today. I think it looks great and I think she will love it! It came with a appraisal from JA, I didn''t think they came with one? So do I still need to go to an appraiser for insurance purposes?

Depends.

1) How detailed is the appraisal? The more info you give to your insurance co. the better off you''ll be should you need to make a claim
2) How inflated is the appraisal? You don''t want to be paying unnecessary premium
3) Are you comfortable with not having an independent professional look over your stone and ring and make sure quality/workmanship is up to par? You may be, you may not be
