diamond size: what increase in diameter to "notice" it?

When looking at round brilliants or cushions, what do most people consider a "real" size increase? One that can actually be noticed? .2mm? .45mm? Pricing goes up pretty rapidly: say comparing an 8mm RB vs an 8.5mm RB; wondering if the size increase is really noticeable, somewhat noticeable, or negligible? Most of the diamonds I have been looking at are between 7.9mm and 8.5mm. Wondering if I should not worry too much about the diameter in that price range, if indeed they will all look the same.

No, those will definitely show size differences. I would say in that size range, .2 difference is noticeable. So 7.9mm to 8.1 will be visibly different, 8.1 to 8.3mm, and 8.3 to 8.5. So there will be a significant difference between 7.9 to 8.5mm. I also looked at diamonds between 7.8mm and 8.4mm last time, and I definitely saw a size difference. I will look and see if I have any pictures that might be helpful.

This is an 8.4mm stone and an 8.1 mm stone. (These are in ring holders which sit the stones high, so they don't look this large on the finger once set in a ring at normal height.)

There's a sizable difference between 8mm and 8.5mm rounds. Go on www.diamdb.com and play around with the dimensions.

I can definitely see the .3mm difference. .5mm would be quite a lot, then!

The smaller the stone, the more noticeable it will be in smaller increments. For example, going from 7.8 to 8.2 will show a lot more than from an 8.6 to a 9.0, and so on... :))

Edit: I meant to say from 6.8 to 7.2, but same principle... Oops!
