Diamond studs - help me select the right stats!

Hi everyone! I need your help! My hubby is going to buy me diamond studs for our FIRST wedding anniversary!! I want to give him some guidelines for the shopping process!
When it comes to shopping for diamond earrings, do you look for anything different than a diamond ring? I am guessing you can go lower in color and clarity, but want a really good cut? I am thinking about 3/4 ctw...

doable, especially staying with gold alloys and going for I/J SI range.

that's very doable. Go to James Allen's website and do a search ot top cut stones in your size and price range and you'll have lots to choose from.
 
$1500 is extremely doable! what shape, style and size of studs are you looking for? that will help us help you!
 
I definitely want round stones, in a white gold setting, hopefully martini!

Thanks for the tip! I went to their website and alot of the paired up stones in my range have one that is "True Hearts" and then the other is "Ideal". Should that concern me? Will it be a noticeable difference?

Case by case, but for that size and at normal viewing distance, no one will notice the pattern.
 
In that size range you won't notice the difference at all. Another thing you can do on there is match up your own pairs. I saw a G and 2 H's all of the same diameter. I think that one of the H's and the G looked like a perfect match for size. You'll never be able to tell one grade color difference on your ear.
 
Just wondering if you think you might ever want to trade them up for larger stones? There are certain vendors/stones
that will allow you the full price at trade-in if you ever think you want to trade up. (I wish I had this option with mine :(( )
 
The position of the earrings is inherently less light exposure than the e ring, a stone with a taller crown will attract more light even if the hair is blocking some of it. I may suggest looking at some August vintage rounds from GOG, they have them in smaller size now. i purchased for my wife RB but that was before they got the smaller AVR, i would of gone for them had it been on their site before the purchase. it could be more expensive but it will deliver performance wise.

Just a thought.

Thanks for the tip! I found the stones you suggested and they look beautiful but unfortunately even the pair of .25s would be out of my budget! ;(
 
ya, JA has that option, looks like their website is down at the moment. BN does not.
 
You might wanna look at Whiteflash or Brian Gavin Diamonds(BGD). You can get superbly cut rounds from them within your price range.
Whiteflash sells ACA (A Cut Above) stones, and Brian Gavin has a signature series. Both product lines are ideal-cut Hearts & Arrows stones held in high regard. Do a search of the forum and you will see lotsa raves about the cut quality of stones from these 2 vendors.

But more importantly, IMHO, Whiteflash and Brian Gavin allow lifetime upgrades with no minimum price.
For example, though James Allen also allows for upgrades, they only give "100% credit towards a new purchase valued at least 2x the original amount"
Whiteflash and BGD, however, give 100% credit for any other single diamond of equal or greater value.
So unless you're absolutely sure your future upgrade will cost at least twice the price of the current purchase, Whiteflash and BGD have better upgrade policies.
 
Make sure you go to a local jeweler and try on the martini and basket settings. I thought I really wanted martini and found that they drooped on my lobe more than the baskets. Yes Cut cut cut....I would try to stay s1 and not below J.....just my opinion
