I bought from Deejay Jewlers after perusing threads. I knew this may be an issue, but was hoping for a better outcome. LOL! So now I’m hoping someone can give me a solution to keep it from flipping. I’m trying to avoid returning, but I am in the return window if needed. It’s 16” long, 6 ct and really pretty. Has anyone come up with a solution to keep it from flipping??? Anyone have their jeweler add a very thin wire on the back and has that helped? Can this even be done?? Would you recommend just getting a graduated/riviera style instead?

They flip. I got the 18 inch which was pretty good at NOT flipping but I wasn’t quite happy.
Enter adding a pendant, permanent, to the necklace.
ah ha, it never ever flips and stays in place and I love it.

I think another forum member has had thin bars placed behind her stones to stop the flipping?

@Bron357, your necklace is beautiful! For a special piece, it looks lovely. I’m trying to keep it everyday casual with this purchase. That’s got me wondering if I’m expecting too much for a casual look??

@seaurchin mentioned she was planning to bring hers in to her jeweler to try. I hope she see this thread!

I wear mine walking the dogs! In the photo I’m sporting an $8 T shirt
Id take it into the jeweller and ask if a wire back for say the middle 6 diamonds or more, ie make that part rigid, will stop flipping. Having the extra weight should help.

Get the DJ graduated one. I tried both a 7 carat tennis style and an 8.5 carat graduated style. I really wanted the look of the 7 carat but it was flippy. The front stones in the current riviera style are soldered together.

The graduated riviera looks great with tee shirts and jeans too!

Ok, I love your style!! Did you notice I’m in my pj’s and diamond neckace….:lol-2:

I have looked over your posts with a fine tooth comb! I knew it was a bit risky ordering the line necklace…. Yours is beautiful! I’ve reached out to DeeJay and they’ve already replied. I’m really happy with their prompt communication during the process. They are low on supply after the holiday and will be restocking next week. If I do order the graduated one, I’ll get the 8.5ct size. Sounds like you're happy with that??

I have an 18" tennis and it flips. Not too bad and I don't really care as I tend to wear it very casually so if it doesn't look like a full expanse of diamonds, I'm not bothered. I've posted before that I also have a 15" vintage tennis and it doesn't flip at all. I think the setting may have a lot to do with it, but others can comment if the shorter necklaces flip less as well, but yours isn't much longer. Here is the backside of my 15". Given the way it is set, the suggestion to add some kind of wire to the back seems like it would help. I've looked for other necklaces set like this and haven't seen any so that probably isn't an option which is why I think adding the wires may be the next best option.

Funny story…I ended up winning an 11 carat platinum riviera at auction when I was in the return window with DJ and had to return the 8.5 carat gold one.

But, I actually miss the DJ necklace! The platinum one is gorgeous but a lot heavier. 8)

Bottomline, I did A LOT of research and would not hesitant to buy the another riviera from DJ.

Oh, thanks for reminding me! The new-to-me local jeweler who I decided to try said he'd be going out of town for a week or so but he should be back now. I will shoot him another email now. He said he could do the wire or some such but couldn't give me a price quote at that time. I wish I had a finished result for you but not yet.

To whoever mentioned length, fwiw mine is 16 inches.

Thank you for letting me know! I think a trip to my jeweler is in order. Please, post pics if you get this done!

Does the wire soldered on the back affect the sparkle of the diamonds at all? It seems like it would block some light.

The DJ riviera does not have wire soldered to the back. The largest stones are soldered together to make almost a crescent space. It’s this design feature that helps the necklace lay flat.

As mentioned above, I haven't had mine done yet but I don't see why it would. Light would not be coming in from the back anyway, since it sits against the skin.

Update: I returned the necklace. I don’t want to take a chance trying to fix it. If the fix doesn’t satisfy me, I’m stuck with a necklace that flips and won’t get worn. Undecided if I order the graduated one or just put this project aside for now.

Honestly I find that all the riviera necklaces flip unless you add a heavy pendant which completely changes the look. @MamaBear I am glad you returned it and hope you find a necklace you love.

I would have done the same in your position.

Let us know what to decide to do. The DJ graduated necklace is comfortable. The 18” length and soldered larger stones make it lay flat.

I am following this thread. TBH, i am a bit worry now, I have one currently on a short layaway, I don't have it in my hands yet, but soon. Now I worry that I've made a wrong decision. It's also a tennis necklace, similar style (not graduated). It is an 18" and I was going to shorten to 16". Do you know if most tennis necklaces have flipping issues regardless of length?

I think the line styles do flip unless they are closer to choker length. Maybe a bolo style one wouldn’t flip bc you could tighten it?

Idk, seems like a non flippy line style necklace is like a unicorn…unless it’s a segmented style like @Lookinagain’s?

DW has a tennis necklace set with three prongs and with the hinge on the two prong side.

Setting Close Up.jpg

It is much more flexible when worn with the hinge on the inside of the curve and doesn't flip.

Flexibility Single Prong Side Out.jpg

It is much less flexible when worn with the hinge on the outside of the curve and flips.

Flexibility Double Prong Side Out.jpg

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you, @prs . What are the stats on your wife’s necklace? Is it platinum? Where did you get it? Im still mulling my options.

I have two 4 prong tennis necklaces. One is 15 carats and the other is 4.5. They both flip but it is less noticeable with the larger carat size. It makes sense All chains flip can’t help it -we move! It’s why they looks so beautiful as the light hits them. You can either live with it but if it bothers you too much you will never be happy. it’s a lot of money to spend if you don’t absolutely LOVE it! It’s beautiful by the way AB1E1DF4-4548-439B-9AEA-EC3EE8F3867E.jpeg271C9BBE-90F7-4C10-8EBA-3B72DA2532DE.jpeg

I sleep in mine. Never take my smaller one off. And when I walk my dogs they love it lol!

It's 18K white gold, 16" long, and weighs 24 grams. We bought it at an estate jewelry store and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a maker's mark. There are 91 diamonds in the necklace.

When we bought the necklace we thought it was 17 ctw. However, a couple of years later our appraiser determined it was only about 14 ctw. Turns out you have to be very careful when trying to measure small diamonds set in a basket. Often the metal basket the diamond sits in has a slightly larger diameter than the diamond. You have to be very precise with the calipers to make sure you are measuring the diamond, and not the larger basket!!! :eek-2: :eek-2:

We purchased the necklace quite some time ago, and since then DW has realized about half the value of the necklace is hidden behind her hair. If she had to do it over again I have no doubt she would go riviera rather than tennis.
