Jen, sorry I''ve missed your posts!! I didn''t know you got new pears to show!!!!!!!!!

I love them both!!! Obviously, again...I''m not an expert, but they both look so sparkly and beatiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do they look in person???....I would go for the bigger one

How ''bout those bowties?? What do you think?? Obviously this was taken in direct sunlight at the angle that most promoted the bowties to show up. Would it make you crazy?? They''re both beautiful indoors!

They''re both beautiful Jen!!! I''m getting stressed out trying to decide which one to post is my favorite, so I can''t imagine how you must be feeling!!
3.gif
Seriously, I think they are both gorgeous, so I would either (a) get the one that "speaks" to you more, or if they''re about equal in that respect....(b) get the bigger one.
31.gif
Good luck!!! I don''t think you can go wrong with either one, and I''m glad to hear you''re feeling good about the degree of bowtie-ness they have now too!!

I can''t decide either! In some ways I like the slightly fatter shape of the smaller one more, but at the same time size is always nice.

OK, I''m going to wait until a few more people post and then post stats. I will say this though -- the color is ever-so-slightly better looking in one than the other, but they both looked close in the pics. Plus my skin didn''t help

One shines a bit brighter in the sun, too. Oh yeah, for 2 pears that look a bit different, their l t w''s are remarkably close: 1.47 and 1.48!!

They are both beautiful, I definitely like the shape of the smaller one better, something about the point on the other one looks weird to me, I am NO expert, I might be dreaming.

On the bow tie issue, for me personally, I might not be able to handle it, I might be obsessed with it, again I am no expert, I don''t know if all pears has some sort of bow tie and how bad these are in the scheme of things, also would the bowtie be less noticeable when they are set?

How exciting to have two beautiful diamonds in your hand though, Good luck!

I also like the fatter one better, but that''s just me! I think that the bowties are pretty common for pears, right? And from what I''ve seen, the bowtie is less noticable in different settings, i.e prong set is better for showing less bowtie.. Anyway, good luck!!

OK here''s the stats: You guys seem to be leaning toward the smaller one, which is interesting (I figured people here would say mostly go bigger!

I think the point is just ''fatter'' I guess is the word I''m looking for. It all depends on if you like it or not. Some people like the fatter stones. Same goes for marquise. It''s just personall preferance. I think the fatter tip would be stronger.

Hmmmmmmm....this is a tough choice!

I can honestly say I prefer the fatter shape of the smaller stone. But the larger one looks like it may be more billiant. Which is brighter in person? Bowties look about the same to me...how are you feeling about them?

What''s funny is when I got the first stone, I thought the proportions were perfect. Nice big stone, Length-to-width was 1.47

Then I get this one today, and it''s slightly rounder and fatter (which I''ve said all along I wanted) and it makes the bigger stone look a bit too long!

Confusing!

So, I have at least come to the realization that my initial diamond''s bowtie isn''t too big, and although I do not love it, it seems to be the norm for this shape. The bowties are more or less identical for these 2 stones.

This was the comparison I needed though --- and I think you are all right in seeing that the smaller one has a slight bit more fire and better color. But then, I can''t help but liking the idea of a bigger stone

I like the way the smaller one sparkles!

I''ll let M see it when he gets home and see how he feels. I am so SO glad I have you all to bounce this off of -- I didn''t think it''d be this hard. Part of me wants to throw my hand up in the air a give up!

So where''s Diamond Lil and Firegoddess?? I think I need their opinions too

Thanks guys!

These are great pictures - different than the ones posted in Rocky Talky. Both stones really look good here. Every pear is going to have some level of bowtie like you pictured above depending on the lighting condition. Remember that even for rounds direct sunlight is not the best lighting - it makes them look dark as well!!

One more thing I''ve found - keep the bottom of the setting open - ie have the halo around the stone but don''t close up the bottom with metal - the light that gets through the pavillion really helps diminish visible bowtie and makes the pears look so amazing - like they have an inner glow that''s surreal. I think I have a picture, not sure. Will check.

Some pictures - all the same stone. Some before the halo, some after.

Here''s two where there''s hardly any direct light, just some incidental light coming from a nearby window, but the stone almost glows from within. I love that. I see it alot with this stone.

Here''s two in direct sunlight. See how just a little tilt makes the stone look completely different - just a little tilt in direct sunlight and you can see the dark area more - just a weird thing with fancy shapes that can have a bowtie.

Also, I think one thing to remember, at least IMO, is that fancy shapes are hard to catch on film - the beauty is so pronounced in person because you''re really seeing the stone moving (which is how you''re usually going to see it) as opposed to being stopped in time.

FireGoddess- that is amazing how that little tilt changes the look of your stone! (which is awesome by the way, I love the setting you have)

Great comparisons! So which one do you think you will pick? To me, the bowties look about the same in each one, and are somewhat noticeable, but definitely not bad. The shape and size are quite different though, which might come down to personal preference or price.

Wow, I am having a hard time believing the smal one is an I and the big one is an H. THey look opposite to me. After a lot of staring at the pictures, I would go for the smaller one. Good luck!

ETA: the fatness was also huge in my deciding factor!

Firegoddess -- Thanks for posting your pics! I see what you mean about the inner glow and I love that. Mark T will be custom-making the head for my setting, and I''ve already told him "no baskets" -- I told him I liked how the halo was attached to the band on the Ritani (which should let light in-- not enclosed) and he said he could do one like that and to draw some ideas up if I want, so I guess I''ll be an artist for the next few days
2.gif
My personal idea is that it would look like a regular 4 prong setting (with bling on them in my perfect world!) and the halo would be attached to that. Definitely will be prong-set just slightly above the halo, not much space. Sorry for the long description -- hopefully I can get that on paper somehow!

ILoveSparkles-- as I said under the specs, the bigger one appears to be more i-j than h --- it''s EGL USA, so I got it expecting an I!

Everyone else --thank you for all your opinions! General concensus is go with the smaller one --- which I agree with. I LOVE the shape and color and fire of it (but, dangit, I wished it were as big as the other one! haha) M thinks it''s a bit better too, so that helps. We''re keeping the smaller/fatter one ... and no more searching!! I''m happy with that one (and it''s funny b/c getting this one in made me like the first one even more! Still, the brilliance of the second - smaller - one is noticeable -- moreso in person IMHO.

So, now I wait for the eternity bands I ordered from Mavilo, and then one is off to Mark to create the head on (I went that route because frankly it was cheaper, and we exceeded budget on the diamond!!! Oops!

I know Mark will do an amazing job on the setting -- he promised me one unlike anyone else''s -- and hopefully it won''t cost us and arm and a leg!

Yay! I''m glad you made a decision, I''m sure it will be plenty big with the halo. It was hard for me to make a final decision too, but I stuck with it with the help of my boyfriend, he doesn''t over analyze, it was pretty and sparkily and he wanted to buy it! Plus the sooner you decide, the sooner you can have the ring!

sorry for my ignorance but what is a bowtie???? or do i want to know?? lol

Diamonds -- yes! True! I told him I hope when this all comes together that he doesn''t hold on to the ring forever! He kind of gave me an evil laugh-- but with his cousin''s engagement happening at literally any minute, I don''t think he''ll make me wait *too* long :) I''m happy that he and I liked the same (smaller) one. I figured he''d like size better, and he actually chose sparkly!

Mustang --- look up at the photo above that says something about bowties - the dark area in each of the diamonds (shows in certain light at certain angles) is shaped a bit like a bwtie and is a common trait in fancy shapes only. Not in RB. In other light, this area actually looks whiter than the rest of the stone or at least equal.

oh wow I see it, I never noticed! wonder if the same goes for sapphires.
