Did I over-pay for this Mahenge Spinel?

Hi, helpful friends.

I ran into this ring that is listed as on sale. It features a 3ct Mahenge Spinel with a Guild report, no heat, dimensions. 8.81x7.16x5.77. Total cost is $9k, set in 18k gold and diamond.

I am in the buyer's remorse stage, especially bc I haven't followed Mahenge prices at all. Do you think it was a good deal?

Bargain in my book, great find, as I have been reliably informed a decent 2ct+ Mahenge Spinel is likely to be over 10k+ USD nowadays.

DK :))

Hi. The ring is beautiful! The only thing that gives me pause about the spinel is what appears to be a significant feather that I see in the table of the gem. Was that disclosed to you before buying?

Found a healed fracture on the table. Cancelled shipping. Customer service is arguing with me on social media non-stop now.

I had to slow down the video and look carefully myself. She didn't say anything about fractures. IMG_20250311_022632.jpg

Thanks for the info. With the feather/fingerprint on the table, how much would it fetch now in the market?

You have really sharp eyes. I wasn't looking very closely, because this designer's other pieces all looked very high quality, and the Sales was pushing to lock price.

Sorry, can't help/comment on pricing as I am not an expert.

Man, I hate to be the dissenter. I don't think this is a great buy. It's a lovely ring, don't get me wrong. But this is not top color Mahenge, and the clarity is far from ideal. This is why we tend to recommend buying loose stones. It's so much easier to decipher exactly what you're paying for. I don't think the price is necessarily exorbitant, but it's higher than I would expect for the quality.

I have to agree with you Autumn!

It kinda reminds me of my non mahenge and mine is 5cts and cheaper. I would expect a mahenge to have more glow. Like @Crimson ’s one that is neon.

I agree the Spinel itself is not a top quality glowy and clean Mahenge, however, I do not believe the overall price for the ring is unreasonable/OTT, as the setting is quite substantial on its own with the amount of diamonds in it and in 18K WG.

Besides, the colour appeals to me personally.

Thanks @mellowyellowgirl .
Yes I have a neon Mahenge spinel and another that is more of a rose red. Here they are! The rose red one was fromThe Rare Gemstone Company. In the second photo the Mahenge spinel is on my ring finger. The spinels on the other two- rings are Burmese.
