Hi Ladies! I''m assuming some of you got your dresses dry cleaned after the wedding. I purchased a sample, and although my dress is in pretty good shape (without a cleaning), I''m considering cleaning it before the big day. Actually, I''ve always planned on having it cleaned until my seamstress told me I really don''t need to have it cleaned during my fitting.

My worry is, it will shrink. I''m totally screwed if it shrinks even a little because it is so form fitting.

So, I just wanted to know, did your gowns shrink after dry cleaning? I asked my dry cleaner today and she said it shouldn''t shrink, but they are not positive since most gowns being cleaned were already worn!

opinions greatly appreciated

Mine did not, but it was a taffeta material. What is yours?

dutchess silk satin on top and organza on the bottom

You need to speak with your dry-cleaner about their method/use of wet or dry cleaning in relation to your gown. Also, if there are trims on your gown, you need to discuss with the cleaner whether those will be removed during cleaning.

I''m curious as to why you want to have the gown cleaned before wearing (yes, I understand that it''s a sample gown). You say that the dress is in good shape...meaning that it''s visibly clean, I assume? Will you have it cleaned simply for peace of mind? Are you wearing undergarments? All things to consider when making the decision to have it cleaned pre-wedding ceremony, I think.

thanks for your response Monarch.

Well, my first instinct was to clean the dress before wearing it si nce I know many other ladies tried it on before me. There was a slight stain on top before, but I got it out with a little soap and water so the top looks fine.
The bottom is a little dirty, since the organza was probably stepped on, etc. I am having the dress hemmed a little....I guess when I get the dress back, I can examine it carefully and decide.

Which method would be better? wet or dry cleaning? I assume they would do dry cleaning at the dry cleaners since it is dutchess silk.

Mine is silk and it didn''t shrink at all (I wish I could pretend that''s why it didn''t fit a year later, but no. It came out like new lol).
