Where can I find the ideal cut dimensions for a round 1 carat diamond? I''m concerned that the top of mine measures 6 mm and I''ve been told that doesn''t seem to be correct - cut wrong or not the right size. (?)

a 1ct round should measure about 6.5mm. if yours is only 6mm, yes, there is something amiss.

Is 6mm the size given on some lab report? ... trying to measure these things (DIY) gets half a milimeter lost easily.

If that is the size given on some report... it probably means that either extra depth or a thick girdle (or both) made the stone smaller than usual for the weight. And this would be less of an issue if 6mm diamonds could not be had at about 0.85pts which cost allot less than (most) 1 carat diamonds do

These being said, yours is not the only 6mm diamond of 1 carat. Apparently some find the weight appealing even if these diamonds look a bit smaller. These may also cost somewhat less than better cut ones, even if the size difference is not a mile after all.

The diameter is only one part of the measurements. You need the rest of the proportions too.

There is a RANGE of acceptable proportions for a round stone.

You need the measurement from the table to the culet. Divide that into the average diameter, and you should get a result of about 60-62%.

If the stone TRULY weighs 1 carat ( on a scale ) and it only measure 6.0 mm. then the depth would be too deep to be in the "ideal" cut range.

This by itself though, isn''t enough to ascertain whether it is cut to ideal proportions. It is a good start. If this measurement does end up being in the 60 to 63% range, then the stone probably DOES NOT weight 1 carat, unless it has an usually thick gridle.

I would suggest you have the appraiser unset the stone and weigh it in front of you. A stone that weighs less than 1.00 is worth a lot less than one that does. This needs to be checked and verified properly. The stated weight needs to be within 0.005 carats. If it isn''t, that is a pretty SERIOUS misrepresentation.

Hell, I didn't realize how much deeper ! (~68%) Yiks.

That's quite allot. It makes sense to suspect the weight is less than 1 ct then... didn't think of that.

'PRC', do you have any lab report with the ring?

Is this the ebay ring prc?

We''ve tried our best to tell you to return it.
