Isn''''t it a little disrespectful to decide that a thread has gone on too long or is too detailed or whatever just because an individual (or several) doesn''''t like the way it''''s going?? The thread started by fire&ice certainly seemed to speak to a reasonable issue for a diamond consumer internet forum -- and many people responded... What''''s with the snide little pie and ice-cream hi-jack? If the thread had in fact stopped there, wouldn''''t have gotten to read John Pollards interesting essay etc.

I say this in the spirit of someone who has read ALL of that great epic novel otherwise known as the SI Ultrasonic thread including what seemed like hourly postings of theoretical constructions of possible arrival times by possible delivery men... AND I bought one because of it AND I love it --- Thanks to all who wrote!!!

But honestly, shouldn''''t other posters be able to follow their issue even if seems circular or to go on and on over a topic? As long as they keep posting, it''''s obviously important to them... If you get bored, go to another thread, maybe?

thread hijacks happen all the time. the whole lemon pie or similar is a DIFFUSING tactic for when threads can possibly get too heated or circular....but as you are fairly new i can see why you might not have known that. but even if you did, and you don't agree...IMO starting a whole new thread saying you think that trying to inject a little humor into a thread is disrespectful is a bit of overkill.

I guess that even if someone thinks a thread is going on forever and ever without any end in sight, but other consumers want to keep it going, people will just keep posting and ignore the people who want to put an end to it. Which is what happened here.

I also read that whole SI US thread, bought one too, and love it! I like it when threads go on for a long time, too, because a lot of various "branchings-out" take place.

i agree lizz...if people still want to continue to discuss the original topic, they will. if not, they won''t. does it really matter in the end? someone always just starts a new thread and the discussion ensues again anyway. we have tons of circular topics here. it''s the nature of the beast.

Hey, I was just proud of myself for having enough history here to even know about lemon pie. I am always diffusing stuff at work, so I guess it''s second nature for me. I certainly didn''t mean to imply I didn''t like the topic. (Since I think I brought up the lemon pie thing.) Au contraire...I''m often miffed that I do not have the smarts to chime in on the given topic. So my tendency is to throw a little humor at it. My quirky nature. In all seriousness Gem-ni, there really was a thread where "lemon pie" was interjected which started a hilarious train of nonsense--the thread had to do with asking what color people preferred in their diamond (if I recall correctly) and someone (sevens one? Can''t recall) piped in with the fact that different people like different flavors of pie, and so on. It was really hysterical. You might find it by searching under "lemon pie." I found out about it after the fact when everyone started talking about lemon pie in a seemingly unrelated thread...then someone filled me in. My turn to fill you in (if you hadn''t heard about it yet).

Gosh lately it''s rough for me. Like out of the blue. But luckily she will only be 20 minutes away, and will get to see her a lot. At least one can hope. She''s so excited to go, has a ton of friends there, so all will be great. I just thank god for cell phones and email.
