Do OECs need vintage/period appropriate settings or will they look good in modern settings?

The title of this thread caught my eye, and though I'm too late to help the OP with a decision, I wanted to chime in since I shared this concern when deciding how to set my OEC a few years back. I ended up choosing a sleek, modern setting and was happy with how it turned out!

I'm attaching a few photos for others reading this thread in the future, looking for examples of old cuts in modern settings.

I could do an OEC RHR emotionally lol it would mess with me (my ex ER-to-be was an old cut transitional-ish diamond that actually got me obsessed with old cuts in the first

Ummm - what? I am pretty sure I remember this stone and didn’t realize it was now off the table! So sorry to hear that .

No worries, I don’t usually post a lot about my personal life but since I had multiple threads on this one I do reference it sometimes… short story is that my SO and I parted ways and it was a family heirloom of his.

I still love OECs, but I don’t think I could handle one in a ring any time soon, which is why I went with studs.

I love the hidden halo!! If I wasn’t doing studs I would be all over the hidden halo idea!

I went against the grain and designed a modern setting for my OEC after giving it’s previous vintage setting a 2 month run. And I’m happy with the results. The center stone is a 4.8 carat OEC flanked by .51 carat each modern brilliants and an eternity band of .10 each carat brilliants. 14K yellow and white gold. Ring size 9.5.

That is a stunning setting! I also love your centre stone - what a gorgeous buttery colour.

<faints> . PLEASE make a thread on this stone!!

I’m going to go against the popular view, and say that although you don’t have to, I do think a period looking setting really sets off the stone.

Oh thx for that teaser pic! Looks amazing-even blurry:kiss2:

Thank you so much! It’s crazy how difficult it is to get a decent pic of the faceting, I remember I tried once or twice and just gave up.

They have such a nice flowery pattern but it looks so dark in the pics even though it’s bright in real life!

The colour is also so chameleon-y. I think the body colour helps them throw more coloured flashes though!

Try backlighting, or under a table. (Advice given in furtherance of moar bling pics) :)

Not on-topic for the studs, but wanted to drop this here to add to the photos of old cut stones in modern settings. AVC in a simple yg solitaire.
