do pink and orange go together?

I need to get a sanity check please!

I wanted to pair my spess with another color side stones. I like orange with blue or purple, but unfortunately I just could not match up the tone (hope I am using the terminology appropriately here...). The spess is kind of bright and glowy and the side stones looked too dark next to it. So then I put it next to these little spinels and I really liked how they looked together. Both are light, bright, sparkly and glowy (that's terminology I am more comfortable with...) and the combination seems very cheerful and summery to me. But am I crazy to consider pairing orange and pink???

Here are some photos, taken in sunlight, indirect natural light and a dark closet. Just for fun, I also included my minty garnet.

Please let me know if this is crazy (you won't hurt my feelings)... Also, what color metal?

For a fun summer ring yes. Actually you often see dresses in a pink/orange stripe combo and it's very eye catching.

Just bear in mind that you'll be limited to what you can wear it with unless you don't mind mixing and matching.

would depend on the setting....a three stone as pictured wouldn't work for me other than as a summer bauble......but something creative and organic and not set as a traditional three stone? yeah, i might just buy into that.

I like the orange/pink combination, but, as MZ has said, not in a traditional setting. This is a kind of in-your-face color combination, and you need to either own that by choosing a creative setting, or do a more traditional color combination.

It can be fun but you'll also find yourself to be somewhat limited. Now that said, if you just don't care and like it, then go for it. That particular grouping would look fantastic in yellow gold.

Wow, thank you all for your feedback! Sounds like you either love or hate it. And the only consensus was on yellow gold...

For what it's worth, I live in southern California, where we have summery high-UV sunlight all year around (which makes these kinds of stones look great), and I feel perfectly happy wearing summer colors, jewelry and clothing any time of year. So it's not limiting from that sense.

I have a suite of spessartites, so I'd like to make ring, earrings and pendant. So it may end up being a sizeable project. I just wanted to make sure that I would still like it at the end of the day

So for those of you who did not like the color combination, what would you pair with a spess instead? I've tried putting it next to sapphire or amethyst, and those were too dark next to a spess. I also tried blue zircon and tanzanite, but they were not as glowy as the spess and looked weird together. Any other ideas??? TL, you are good at matching things...?

Movie zombie, what would be an example of a creative settign that you think would work? I'd need to carry through the design into a pendant and earrings too, might be difficult...

Anyways, i really appreciate all your feedback. Any further suggestions would be great!

I just wanted to add that your proposed color combination just makes me smile- it is a cheerful sunny combo. I have custom earrings that my jeweler named "happy" earrings because of the color combo (peridot and blue sapphire) and your orange and pink stone color combo strikes me as a "happy" (and sunny) combo also.

i don't have any examples at hand but there have been some flowing settings that would qualify posted in this area but some time ago....or try the "do you have a favorite gold designer thread".....

high carat gold and the three together in something that would be innovative and flowing would be wearable year round no matter where one lived.

i also do not like mint green or lavendar with a spess as a 3-stone ring as you showed them sitting.

another factor would be the size of the stones........

That's exactly how I feel!!! It's like my happy flowery perfumes Seeing the glowy sparkly colors together makes me smile too, I agree that it's happy and cheerful. I think that's why I liked the combination...

The spess sizes for the ring and pendant are about 6.5 mm. The little spinels are about 4.5-4.7ish mm. I'd like to make earring dangles with 5-mm spess pairs. I would still need to get a few stones to make this happen, I just wanted to figure out if this is a right color combination.

I think that the color combo is spot on AND you will be seeing a lot of this combo in fashion and jewelry design (i.e Irene Neuwirth/spring). I love that this is a non-traditional color combo and I feel like if you set it in a simple setting (read: classic), that you will not feel like it is too over the top. YUMMY!

I do not like that particular green stone with the spessartites or pink stones, as it has some grey, but I think a more saturated mint color would be stunning. The problem is finding one. I think blue or green pairs well with orange, but in lighter tones. Orange is a difficult stone to pair with because if you don't get the right saturation and tone, it can pull out any unwanted brown in the gem. I personally think pink and red really make orange look more brown. The pinks certainly don't make the orange pop to my eye at all, and orange is a warm color, it should pop! The same could be said for the pinks, which should also pop, but they don't in that arrangement. I'm sure they're beautiful stones, but they just suck the life out of each other. When you place a warm stone next to a cool stone, in the right saturation and tone, they compliment each other, and give each other life. I came up with this three stone option after many PS'ers voted on it.

If you love the orange and pink, I think you should go for it. They're both very bright colors, and are very wearable in warm weather. I second the yellow gold vote.

For the mint green, I think a lavender spinel (again) would look amazing. It would have the same limited wear at the orange/pink combo, but I think it would be really pretty. Rose gold might complement the combination, but I'm not sure. White gold would look pretty also, as long as the stones do not have too much of a grey tone.

I like the orange and pink too, and I will almost always pick YG if given a choice. I was also going to suggest a pale tanzanite, but see you already did that. What about a red garnet? Orange with deep red and yellow gold or even rose gold might be nice. Perhaps even peridot? (Sorry, I make glass beads and often use contrasting color combinations like you are suggesting so I went to look at some of my own color combinations from my beads to throw some ideas out there.)

geez, i'm going to go back and review that thread page by page as i forgot how much great jewelry there is in it! highly recommend that you check it out and the links provided there as well. lots of ideas....

TL, I don't see brownish in this orange, but it's possible that I am not trained enough to see it well. I don't like mint green with orange. What would be another "cool" color? It needs to be equally light and glowy, I couldn't come up with anything else... Your green/pink ring is very pretty.

I love the spess and the pink stones, I think it looks tropical, fruity, just fun and warm. I'd do it in yellow gold. I don't think you need to go too crazy on the setting, either, I don't think you want to detract from the lively colors.

Personally I have always liked orange and pink together.

I'm not sure I would really call it "trendy." I just think the colors complement each other. You could also look at orange and red, or orange and green, or orange and yellow (pale). I would do yellow Gold regardless to complement the orange. I think it would be a fun, warm, ring (but I prefer warm colors over cool so if you wanted more cool, something else would be a better choice).

Well, in the end you have to like it, but I have to be honest, I never ever liked that combination even though I have seen it used by various designers. I don't even wear my spessartites with pink stones rings on the same hand as it makes me go

I love variations of green with orange, or even yellowish green, like chrysoberyl would be a better combination IMHO (if you can find stones that are bright and not too grey or brown). Peridot would also work. However, if you really love it, don't listen to me. Do what makes you happy, and is most attractive to your own eye.

I love pink and orange together and I am late but enthusiastic convert to color. Yellow gold, of course. In the photos you posted I think they look wonderful together but I'm a newb and there's every chance that I'm missing something. I love your bravery and can't wait to see what you come up with.
