I love the lace boleros but for some reason feel like they won''t go with my dress. My dress is a satin (ivory) ballgown with a straight neckline and gathers in the skirt. I found the pattern for this little shrug and think it''s so cute! I think it would go better and would look soft and romantic, but sometimes my taste is viewed as "out there" and "weird" and I wanted to check with the PS masses. Do you like the little shrug (below) if it was in ivory - maybe with a satin ribbon trim - or should I relook at the lace bolero, or go with nothing at all? I would like to stay away from wraps as I want something fitted so my arms are free. I also don''t want to cover my entire top half. Here''s the shrug

Maybe because I can''t see past the pink, but I vote no.

Your dress seems to have much cleaner lines than the soft shrug...I think if you do something, it would need to match the sleek feel of the dress.

I think a lace bolero would look great!!

Whatever you do, you need to match the "feel" of the dress. Lace or satin only on the shrug.

I LOVE that dress. The pink shrug is too casual for that dress. That beautiful dress screams for something dramatic.

I would do a white fox or mink [or other fur] stole [or those tail things - not sure what they are called] or I would have a long rectangle [can't think of what it is called] made of the same material as the dress to sling over your shoulders.

I agree with October, I think a lace shrug would like really nice with your dress! Are you planning to wear it through the ceremony too, or just during the reception? Also, is it for warmth or because you like the look of them? That little knit shrug is super cute, but I think it might work best if it were a winter or fall wedding and it was going to be a little chilly (not sure when your wedding is). Also, I think I would only wear the knit one during the reception, not during the ceremony, since I think it would make the ensemble a little more casual. A lace one you could wear during the ceremony too!

Thanks for all your comments! Actually the reason I went for the soft shrug was because it gave off a warm cozy feel, and my wedding is in December (3 weeks!!) in Canada so it''s always cold up here. But I could see how people would think that the dress and the shrug don''t give the same effect. I was going for a "soft cozy romantic" look, and I loved the look of the lace bolero on other PSers and Knotties, but didn''t know if it would look good with my style of dress. My dress looks more structured in the picture than it does in real life, but satin is still a hard fabric to pair with another type of fabric. I would wear it for the ceremony for sure, and possibly the reception too. The ceremony is in a glass floral conservatory so it''ll almost seem like we''ll be outside in the snow - which is the reason for the snuggly shrug. I think I may make both and see what each look like on with my dress.

Does anyone have (or has seen) a picture of a ballgown-type dress with a lace bolero? I haven''t been able to find one but I would love to see! And more opinions are welcome, I love to hear what everyone has to say!

I''m not sure how you feel about fur (faux or real), but I''d like to second the idea of a fur stole. I almost wanted to get married in December after I saw a spread in a bridal mag with the model wearing one with her dress, and it looked simultaneously cozy and luxurious.

I think the shrug pictured is just too casual for your dress, but the right fur (high quality faux or real if you''re okay with that) shrug or bolero would be amazing with your dress!

You could also do a chiffon stole [a couple of layers thick] in the same color as the dress. You could even trim it in lace if you wanted. [I had both the mink stole and a chiffon stole] ETA I got married in December and wore a red satin strapless sheath type 2-piece dress. The mink was blush and the chiffon matched the dress color.

Wrap Site has a few ideas...but I beg of you to go faux. The feathers don''t come from the store...they belong to a critter just like real fur does. Lots of kind alternatives...fashion shouldn''t cause pain. Oh, no judgement ....just a hopeful suggestion.
