Do these prices seem right to you?

I had these rings custom-made to pair on both sides of a high-end emerald-cut diamond eternity band. I never asked for a price b/c I didn't think that it would be significant. It checked in at nearly $60k. I spot-checked some of the raw materials and the prices seem to be really high. I'm wondering if any jewelers could weigh in on where this pricing falls from a retail perspective. I have a long-established relationship with this wholesaler. Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

I'm a little confused, so please help me understand. Did you have all of the rings you posted made custom for you? If so, to wear or resell? And they all added up to $60k? Or are the rings you posted a product of your research, because you felt you were overcharged by the "wholesaler?" The way I read your post, it seemed like you had ordered 2 bands to sandwich the one you already owned. So I'm trying to figure out how all of these rings fit into the equation.

They were made to pair with my wife's 17ct emerald cut eternity band. This band was custom-made so that all of the rings sit flush. It's the same band set as 9 pairs of different stone combinations...18 rings total. They were designed to give her different looks for the same ring. It's not for resale. See the attached images if you haven't already.

Ahhh I see, thanks for clarifying! Depending on the quality of the stones used (color, clarity, treatments, etc.), the prices don't seem crazy to me... for instance the blue sapphires (qty. of eighteen) have a total weight of 4ct. custom set in 18k white gold and weighing 4g (ring price $4,100). That sounds about right to me. But hopefully another member can offer some better insight. They're lovely though! Your wife will certainly never tire of the endless pairings!!

Looking at the price for the Turquoise ring, IMHO, it is about right, in that a significant part of the cost went to the gold and setting fee.

Using that as a guide, I do not believe the prices for the rest in the collection are outrageous, depending on the quality of the CSs.

Matching CSs take time and efforts and that would and should incur a cost.

DK :))

I have so many questions.

I’ll skip the what in god’s name were you thinking not getting an estimate for eighteen rings and jump straight to does your wife have finger space to stack a 17ct eternity ring with two chunky coloured stone bands - because most women don’t.

Is the pricing fair? Well, you’re not getting top-of-the-line gems at those prices. And as others have said - you’re paying a premium for matching melee. So it’s certainly not unreasonable for run-of-the-mill quality. Let me put that another way: The grand total of $60k is certainly not what is unreasonable in this situation

I didn't even catch that! I think my brain read it as 1.7ct. The ring below is a 5ctw. Can you imagine how large it would be at more than 3x the weight?! :-o

I think it’s high for the stone quality. Jewelers who sell to the public are not wholesalers, and we recommend avoiding them because if they are dishonest on that point, they might not be trustworthy on other things. Many of us here have made multiple custom projects and we not only approve a price, we also pre-approve the stones to be used. Some of those stones look okay, and others look to be unacceptable to me. The blue sapphires are way too dark and the rubies are not good color either. The other thing that others have mentioned is that this is going to make for an extremely wide ring set with the diamond ring. It definitely wouldn’t fit on my finger, so I am hoping and assuming that your wife has tried on two bands this size with her diamond eternity prior to making this order. She must have exceptionally long fingers if this works.

I can’t wait to see a pic of the stack (cs band, eternity ring, cs band)

It seems high to me for the sapphire and ruby rings. Am assuming that they are at least heated based on color matching/consistency and based on the color (too dark for blue and meh for ruby) and treatment it sounds high to me. Price for turquoise rings sound ok based on the gold, etc.

It averages out to 3K per eternity band, which sounds normal. I will presume these are heated and some might be diffused. Labor and gold is quite high at the moment, which accounts for the bulk of the cost.

your wife knows and approves of these bands right? I guess the 17 carat emerald eternity band is done? Can you post a pic and share the deets?

Just to add, I had a quick look at calibrated stone prices before concluding that prices may be on the higher side. Not sure if the rings are full eternities or half but I assumed full, then estimated how many stones based on the total carat weight and pics and calculated accordingly. I also assumed that the base cost of ring is close to the turquoise one which may not be the case depending on how elaborate the bottom design of the sapphire/ruby eternities. If more gold, then price goes up a fair bit.

But 18 rings would never have been a cheap purchase. Was a ballpark figure ever discussed?
