Do We Have Any Fiesta Fans Here?

i'm a fiesta girl too. just got the colbalt set for our wedding. (we really wanted colbalt everyday dishes & a friend introduced me to fiesta.) i'm not what i'd call a "collector" yet but can easily see getting into it b/c i love antiquing. we have the dish sets, butter dish, s&p, covered casserole, pasta bowl, gusto bowls, & lasagna baker. i want the spoon rest, somehow missed putting that on my registry and the smaller baker (can't remember what it's called).

i have a question for anyone w/darker fiesta colors. i can't wash them in my dishwasher b/c of terrible water & even some food stains (despite pre-washing in the sink), what am i missing?? any tips? maybe my dishwasher just sucks :( but the gross thing is i never realized this having lighter-colored, mis-matched, hand-me-down dishes.

Same problem here with the black!!!! I have to wipe them down afterwards for them to look OK, even with the rinse aid.

I think it's all dark dishes, not just Fiesta. I had the same problem with my cobalt blue glass dishes, they always looked water spotted and dirty. I got rid of them and use my 6 different Fiesta colors, now. :appl:

well, i'm glad it's not just me. i felt like a dishwasher-loser. but, i guess i'll be handwashing, which isn't that big of a deal after having to pre-wash & wipe down after the dishwasher run; i'd rather just wash them once in the sink. thought maybe i was missing the holy grail of how to use a dishwasher properly.

LULU66- LOL!

No, it's just put the soap in and go.

i got sick of rinsing the stupid cobalt glass plates, so I ditched it.

Odd thing, though. . . I never had that problem with the cobalt glasses (the kind you drink out of)

I'd given up trying to figure it out. I busted a bunch of the cobalt and put it in a rock tumbler. BING! Instant "sea glass".

well, i'm relieved :cheeky:

we love the colbalt color, so i guess i'll handwash. it's not that big of a deal, there's only the two of us & generally not enough dishes to run the dishwasher unless we're super lazy & let them go a couple of days sitting in the sink. but now i'm thinking about mixing in some other colors through our bakeware items...see? i'm getting addicted already ;)

We use our cobalt and cinnabar dishes the most and I have no trouble putting them in my dishwasher. I don't get any water spots at all.
They have a patent leather shine when I take them out of the dishwasher. I use "Finish" dishwashing bricks with a little rinse aid ball in the middle of the brick.

I don't have the black Fiesta, but I do have quite a few of the darker colors, and the only time I have ever had trouble with the kind of haze and spotting referenced here was when our dishwasher was getting ready to go to the happy junkyard in the sky. Other family members with dark Fiesta don't seem to have an issue either, and we live in a very, very hard water area.

we live in a pretty hard water area too. and while our dishwasher seems fairly new (we're in a rental that's fairly new), it is in a rental home. so, could have been abused by previous tenants and/or just cheap to begin with. i will try the finish dishwashing bricks though; it's worth a shot!

See, I couldn't understand the spotting on the cobalt blue glass dishes, either. Our water is totally NOT hard, it is about as soft as it can get, so much so that it is a hazard to the surface of all the swimming pools here (leeches the finish off, or something like that). But the dishes just came out nasty.

Now I do have some evergreen and cobalt fiesta, and it always comes out clean. Maybe that's the nature of cobalt glass? I don't know, they're long gone.

I watched this film on the fiesta site, and it is kind of stunning! Watch how FAST these people move:

gemgirl, you're a life saver!! bought the bricks, tested out a small load, came out better than ever! loaded that thing up to the sky & those came out great too! thanks for your help :D :D :D

I WISH I had known about the bricks before I threw out my dark blue dishes!

So glad those worked for you, LULU! :appl:

I purchased Fiestaware for our lake cabin, which we purchased 5 years ago. The cabin is 100 years old this year. It keeps the retro look and I love the bright colors. I have 4 colors, the bright yellow, red, and blue that are current, and my green is the retired sea mist. Sea mist is far and away my favorite. Food looks great on it. When we remodelled the cabin a couple of years ago, we pulled off the awful cheap panelling that the previous owers had put up, and discovered the original paint colors under the walls. Yep, it was sea mist green, and a lovely pure yellow. The cabin has no dishwasher, so I wash those dishes by hand. Another reason to use cheerful colors that you like.

I'm so happy they worked for you too! I don't even have to buff off an occasional water spot when I use those.

I did a favor for a friend about ten yrs ago, and redecorated her Manhattan apartment. She'd never been into decorating and coordinating her things, so pretty much everything she had up until then got thrown out. It was all junk :knockout: I showed her my Fiestaware and she liked the assortment of colors and the durability of the dishes. For her kitchen and dining area, I did everything (table linens, place mats, chair pads, dish towels etc.) to coordinate with her new Fiestaware. In her service for eight, I mixed a light seafoam green, butter yellow, cantalope and ivory. They looked great on the table all mixed in different combinations. I think that's what makes Fiestaware fun.

@gemgirl: love that combination! Way to brighten up an NYC apartment!
