But - why not extend that? Take your eyes off the road for more than X seconds whilst the car is moving, entertainment turns off and alarm blares at you. Make it impossible to NOT look at the d*mn road in front of you. I'd trust that automation far more than the car trying to drive itself.

Lexus already has this feature on some models. If it can ‘see’ you’re not looking at the road, you get an audible ‘bleep’.

BMW also has a feature that “wakes you” when it senses the driver is exhibiting sleepy symptoms. That’s not how the vehicle states it, I can’t remember the exact verbiage, but it’s in my car’s menu… lol
 
I voted “yes.” As a person who learned to drive when she was 12 years old, and is now staring down the next half of life, I am sick of driving. Self-driving car = next best thing to private chauffeur!

I’ve road-tripped cross 3 states in a Tesla and it was fine. I trusted that car more than I trusted the dude in the driver’s seat..:
