Do you bring work home with you?

There are only a few things I can do from home. Most of my stuff has to stay in the office due to confidentiality, but when I'm working on sales/marketing plans, I can do that from home. I am salaried, so I try to keep as much work in the office as possible. However, sometimes its nice to to just leave early and work on things at home where I can't be interrupted. I also have a work cell phone that can ring at any hour- though I typically only get a call or two eveyr weekend. And I have to call in to verify that admissions came, etc.

My company has switched from talking about "work/life balance" to "work/life integration". Basically this is code for "We'll let you leave early if you need to, or even work from home once in a while, but if something needs to be done in the evening you had better do it." It's kind of lame, honestly. I don't think I want my work integrated into the rest of my life! I like it better when it's balanced.

Work/life integration, huh? Hmm.... yeah, that sounds like code for your job taking over your life. Unless I'm self-employed, I don't think I would like that sound of that.

I agree 100%! They try to make it sound innocuous, but who wants to be thinking about work during the rest of their regular life?

I might read up on procedures that I have to do or study my notes but other than that I can't take work home. The dogs/cats need to stay in the surgery!

Nope, Gotta have a life, so I draw the line there and leave at 4

For the most part, work stays at work. However, sometimes I'll have a project with a short deadline (on top of my normal workload) and I'll take my computer home and put an hour or two in on my own time. I am on call once a quarter, so obviously work has to come home with me then, but otherwise as long as I'm efficient during the day, I don't have to worry about bringing it home with me. Normally, though, I'd rather just stay in the office until things are done.

yes! and i hate it.

Yes, if I have to make my hours. Or if I'm in trial. That just comes with my line of work.

If I'm behind or on deadline then I will sometimes bring stuff home, but more often I just stay late at the office to get stuff done.

Most of the files I work on come in huge boxes, so lugging them home wouldn't be terribly practical.
