among your friends and your co-workers? i'm not necessarily talking about size. since everyone here is looking to buy excellent cut stones.after doing all your homework, was it worth the effort?

There is no doubt my eng diamond is the best! lol

My husband and I didn't do much homework and just lucked out. . .

I'm proud of how much my rock sparkles and my best friend has a great stone, too, of the same size, and hers is an antique cut diamond in a box setting so it looks different, yet is very pretty (which is cool because it's nice having a simular size diamond to your best friend - the rest of the girls, I could care less about (hehehe).)

Honestly, many of the gals I know have very unappealing diamonds that look dull and some have clear visable inclusions. Most think a diamond is just a diamond, so although my diamond is cut better, none of the people who I know would even recognize this and understand the asthetic value.

Michelle

It was MORE than worth the effort.
1.gif
But most people don't understand that the cut is what makes the stone sparkle so. When people admire my ring, I say "it is Ideal" cut and they look at me as if I am speaking another language. They want to know how big it is and some "look" for inclusions (can't find any
2.gif
. The only person at work who appreciated the cut is a guy who just got engaged. Cut was the #1 factor in his decision above all else but he, like I, has a hobby-level interest in diamonds/gemology and was educated (although he had never heard of Pscope.)

I do look at my friends and coworkers who have RBs ad I can tell that many have too low crowns and deep pavillions and "dead spots" but I bet most other people don't notice.
confused.gif

I learned and paid close attention to cut because I knew it would yield a very sparkly diamond; I know better than to think most people are going to understand the "science" behind that sparkliness. Thank God for SMTR!!

I find so many people stealing glances at my ring. It really sparkles like crazy and everyone thinks that my diamond is much larger than it really is!! A little homework was so incredibly worth it for the quality that I got at an excellent price. I couldn't have come close to what I got for what I paid around the local stores here.

ABSOLUTELY WORTH IT.

I used to think that diamonds were not all that pretty, because most of what I saw out there just didn't seem to sparkle. Then a friend of mine got engaged -what a sparkler. At the time I assumed it was because it was a huge honkin' rock that it sparkled more. Now I realize it's the cut.

I started studying up on diamonds for one of my dearest friends who was thinking of proposing to his girl, and wanted my help picking out a stone and setting. I found PS, got hooked, the rest is history. He still hasn't proposed, but I've bought a couple of diamonds in the interim!
6.gif

Today I took my new RHR with the AWESOME cut stone for a little taste test to Tiffany's and Cartier. It looked better than anything I compared it to (and yes, those lights are CRAZY bright). Of course I'm pleased, but not too surprised!

Ah yes, and then we went to dinner at Macaroni Grill, where they have string lights hung from the ceiling all over... I've never seen a display like what my new stone put on in that multitude of low point-lights... I told my husband he'd have to leave me there, I was mesmerized.
loopy.gif

Bottom line -I always had a dream of rainbows and sparkles, but nothing I saw outside of jewelry store lighting seemed to have it. Now it's on my finger, and it is making me SO happy. And I've had colleagues comment on how large it looks (it's "only" a 0.79ct), and actually hold it up next to their own stones. They can't believe the difference in sparkle factor. I didn't do it to compete, but it is nice when others notice it too
1.gif

LOL, q...Macaroni Grill makes diamonds go nuts! I need to go with my new stone...and get some of those lights in my house!

quaeritur you and jenn should get a job at Macaroni Grill and blind their customers with your diamonds.
10.gif

LOL!!!
9.gif

But with the free meals I'd get working there, I'd end up with a size 7 finger, and as Jennifer knows, then I'd have to upgrade to a 3ct!
2.gif

I think my stone is probably the 2nd best in my office. There is a girl with a 2ct princess set in the most gorgous setting. Its so sparkly you can see it across the room.

I get lots of compliments on how shiny and sparkly my ring is. It's not the biggest puppy on the block, but it's sure the prettiest.
2.gif

Absolutely. Although my diamond is not big, it definately outshines all of the diamonds worn in my office, and by my aunts/cousins/friends. I love this little sparkler and can hardly wait until the ring is finished.

Hi,

I got my diamond from GOG recently. Its on its way to the jewelers to be mounted. I have to say that my diamond is a winner due to the fact that it sparkles like mad because of a great cut. And I didn't have to pay a fortune. I just knew what to look for in a cut coupled with nice color. It has a few inclusions(1.01ct E si2) but you don't see them because of the cut. It also looks way bigger than I thought it would. I hope I can get used to it.

Suz

Oh, you'll get used to it. And then when you're "used" to it-high tail over to the local Macaroni Grill!!!

love.gif

Sparker I can't wait to see your ring.

I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it, my choice to go with the smaller tension set 8* over the 3 stone oval we'd nearly bought is the best one I've made in my short diamond obessed last year. This thing sparkles like no frigging tomorrow.

I have to find myself a Macaroni Grill around here and check it out.. and if all you say is true about the lights there, I think Q maybe truly blind the whole place when she shows up with the new right hand ring AND the 8* pendant.. the servers will have to wear sunglasses just to get near the table.

We do not have Macaroni Grill here (that I know of), we have Starbucks
rolleyes.gif
lol But, the lighting in there is AMAZING for diamond viewing. Whenever we go for coffee, I be sure to clean all my diamonds first so they look as firery as possible and blow all those other dull rocks away.
10.gif

hehehe

Michelle

It was well worth the effort! My ring is fabulous

9.gif
! It's not big but sparkles. My cousin and friends have inspected my diamond very closely and could not find a flaw. At this point I am scared to buy diamonds in the mall. I've just started looking around for a diamond wedding band and the mall stuff is crap! Another think is that I don't think I have ever heard anyone complain about their engagement ring after being on price scope.

Sometimes I feel kind of sorry for the diamond retail shopper

sick.gif
. I know one perk of buying at the mall is that you can get financing but the quality is mediocre at best! I just think the average buyer really doesn't cares about diamond knowledge or quality. They seem to only care about the carat size. Oh well...

Hi Sevens,

You are the best. Where the heck is the Macaroni Grill. I've heard it mentioned many times. I don't get it?? I'm kind of slow on the uptake sometimes.

Suz

P.S. I'll try to take some nice photos of it. I'm so happy with the diamond. Its being set in a rather simple setting and my boys were with me when I was picking out the setting. They of course, wanted me to get the really fancy ones with side diamonds but my budget woulnd't allow it for now.

Macaroni grill is nice but lets not forget the parking lots with halogen lights (at dusk to night) OMG! I rush to my car from the mall or costco and then just sit in the drivers seat (doors locked engine on ready to go) but I do just sit there stupidly mesmerized turning my hands like the chicks do on QVC...."now ladies only 30 of these left."

Other places our rings dance:
grocery store
in costco
in Bertucci's restaurant
in movie theatre
(ladies do this ONLY if you are the passenger)...in your car at night, hold your hand(s) up and look at the stone with other traffic headlights behind your car OMG!

Anyway, not to hijack...yes my ring is actually one of about 3 real sparklers/high quality in my office.

LOL luvmysparklies!!!! You crack me up.

Don't worry Sparker-you'll find that hot spot where your ring just seems to dance..... Hopefully not while you're performing. Don't want any missed notes!!!

Do I feel like I have the best eye appeal diamonds? Probably not, but I enjoy them anyway. I figure there is always someone out there with something better, and someone out there with something worse, so why stress about it.

At my office, there are those with beautiful jewelry, and those whose boyfriends buy them things from the mall (I really wanted to say something but have learned to keep my mouth shut because that lady really treasures her jewelry because her boyfriend was thoughtful enough to get them for her in the first place).

Hi,

I know exactly the place. The grocery store!! I must go there 3 to 4 times a week maybe more with three teenage sons. OMG, I'll never get out of there. They have the best lights as I've noticed my little princess even sparkles more than usual there. Also you should see what stage lights does to a diamond. Out of sight!

Gee! You must be dwelling in some serious diamond display to see allot of pieces 'better' than yours around day in and day out. Is it so, of is the phrase cited above thoretical ?

Remember, better is not always bigger. I have seen some beautiful diamonds that are .75cts and I have seen some ugly 4 cts (ie on a neighbor). And yes, there are a number of women at the office with big rocks ... and also women that wear up to 3 diamond bracelets at the same time (I am not one of them). So, I just answered the question truthfully.

I knew it about the stage lights. What out woman!

Oh ya, the grocery store. But 3 to 4 times a week? You need to start shopping in bulk! Hello Coscto. Need a 10lb jar of Mayonaise, sure why not!

I second that!!! Can't wait to see what my new bracelet looks like on stage (the old one used to sparkle like crazy and now it looks like a dud next to my new one in normal daylight). Guess I'll have to wait until 9/26/04 for our first concert of the season.

Hey, You and Sparker should play a duet for us on the East Coast!

That would be fun. I think cflutist lives out west, I live in the fly over region. How about a trip to NY?

Suz

We could meet Jonathan at GOG.
