Okay, while I am just dreaming here, I am wondering which would look better for a diamond pendant chain length. I''m talking something in the area of 3/4 ct or smaller-maybe pear shape rock. Do you like the sparkle in the hollow of your neck? A tiny bit lower? Lower than that? Why? Thanks for your input guys.

i don't like 16" because i feel like it's choking me and it's too high up on my neck. i have an 18" with a 16" option and i never have worn it on the 16" area...i love the 18' because it makes the stone a little more visible, but not too low and it seems more flattering to my neck and chest shape if that makes sense! it also looks great with something like a v neck sweater or a button down with a collar because it hits at just the right point for me.

For the clothing neck styles I tend to wear, I like 16-inch necklaces.

double post.

Yes, that does make sense. I''m asking because I recently gave my daughter a marquis shaped pendant, and it looks great at 18" on her- but she is a lot bustier (for lack of better terminology) than I am, and it sits perfectly on her. When I wear it, it just doesn''t have that same appeal. Somehow, wearing lower things on me seems to be a billboard for "what''s missing here" lol lol lol. Maybe I need a push up bra?? (Hey, what I will do to get the diamonds looking good, I swear...)

I like 16 inches myself. It sits just below the hallow of my neck and 18 inches on me anyway is too low. I went with a 16 inch chain for my diamond halo pendant from WF.

I may just have to play with some and see what appeals to me. I''m always seeing pics of celebrities with the little spark at the hollow of the neck and think "that''s really pretty."

All of my pendants have 17" chains. You have a bit more room to tuck a 17" chain under the collar of a blouse or sweater.

Now, that''s a thought....

Personally I like 16 inches for a solitaire and 17 or 18 inches for bigger pendants like a heart or circle of life type thing.

I use both a 16" and an 18" depending upon the kind of neckline I have on.

the other thing JJ is that i think that the body shape and height of the person has something to do with it. for example i am tallish and so a 16" for me feels way too tight and constricting. it''s right in the hollow of my neck. but an 18" is still about 2" away from my chest in a scoopneck top. so the 18" for me hits like right in the middle of my chest, not remotely near my cleavage. but on a shorter girl, an 18" would probably be too long. just wanted to throw that out there since you mentioned an 18" looking better on a busty gal, i was thinking well mine doesnt even go near my chest! hehee.

I prefer 18" overwhelmingly. 16" feels like it's choking me.

And my pendants flip more on 16", whereas they don't ever with the 18".

HI:

I''m here too. When David was creating my teardrop diamond pendant, he thought 18 inches would be a great length, but my preference was 16 inches b/c with the size of the "drop" anything longer would sit too low on me as well. Hence, I always opt for a 16.

cheers--Sharon

I''m the odd one here, but I have most of my chains shortened to 14" so they sit in the hollow of my neck, and I wear 16" ones when I want something a bit longer. I guess I have a skinny neck or something. I''m a big fan of necklaces sitting up higher though, so I''d go with a 16".

ah ha! i knew i had one of these somewhere!

this is my sister's small ACA bezel pendant 16" and my small regent pendant 18" on my neck. so it shows where they both fall on me. i am tallish ~5'8"...if this helps?!?! i guess the 16" isn't that high so i don't know why i feel like it chokes me!

WHY CHOOSE ... just get 2 inches of links added to the back of a 16" chain ... that way you can adjust the look for different tops.

Pendents looking right usually depend on a combination of:

* shape of pendent (elongated ones look weird on short chains... anyone remember the "tusk" look? .. but single stones look best shorter ... too "empty" further down on the neck/chest)
* height/stature/weight of person
* type of neckline of the shirt currently being worn

A funny, well-known fashion designer told me two jewelry rules: Gals with fuller faces shouldn''t wear chokers (draws attention to jowels, double chin etc instead of the voluptuous bust area, which longer necklaces emphasise) ... and dangle earrings brighten the face & make everyone look more youthful. I ix-nay''ed all my chokers after that & got some danglies.

just go to walmart and get a 16 inch chain and an 18 inch chain.

i have a neck like a football player, round face and very busty too. 18 inches fits in the hollow of my neck. i have chains of all the lengths depending on my neckline of the day. Is this why i favor dangly earrings? huh!

I agree - most of my chains are altered so I can wear them either 16" or 18". It really depends on what you''re wearing it with!

I like 16" chains. 18" feels too long on me.

I have all lengths but seldom wear anything but the 16". I am short and I have a small neck so an 18" is long and you can''t see the pendent.

Wow, thanks everyone. I''m avg height-around 5''6", so I guess either would be ok. I''ve always loved chokers--very romantic.

I LOVE 16", 18" always seems too low on me...

Isnt it always fun to see just how personall jewelery is for everyone! For me, I prefer 16". I am "shortish" and still I feel the 16" can be tight but I just think they look better on me. I dont like super long pendants or long enough that they get buried underneath my shirt collar. I think on me the shorter chain highlights my upper chest/neck area better. I do think though if you had a larger pendant such as a large circle of life, etc, you would want a longer chain.

I''m in the minority, too. I love the diamond to hit right in the hollow between my collarbones. I like it at 14-15" max for dainty necklaces. I have a DBY necklace that sometimes feels like it''s choking me, though.

I shouldn''t have had them shorten it to 14". The next one I got I made them shorten to 15" and it''s perfect. I''d think the diamond would flip more if the chain were longer -- only because it''s an invisible chain. It''s all so dainty!

I am not tall by any stretch but I prefer 18". My diamond pendant is on an 18" chain and it falls just right with most clothing. I can''t stand anything near my neck - turtlenecks, scarves, anything!

I just bought a new chain for my HK Pendant and at first I bought an 18" chain. It was too long so I exchanged it for a 16" chain. The weight of the pendant weighs it down a little bit so that it sits right below my hollow.

I have 16 and 18 in. chains and I wear them based on the neckline of the clothing I''m wearing. I wear the 16 in. much more often though. I am 5'' 3 1/2" and I feel like the 16 in. hits at a better place.

I like 18 much better too. I also feel like 16 chokes me a bit. I am 5''7".
