Do you prefer 16" or 18"+ for a pendant?

Ok, can''t sleep here. Worrying about whether to fuss a lot or let the house be lived in comfortable for a weekend family gathering...(yes, I know it''s only tuesday.. thinking just to let it be, but you know bils and sils... Anyway, wow, the variety.. Mara, thank you thank you for the visual. I do know what you mean by that choking feeling. It''s a quandry. On one hand, I love how I think it would look close to my neck, but on the other, sometimes I think it''s fun to have something not entirely visible. Also, I guess it will depend on the size of the pendant. I have a little bit left on a trade in, and am pondering how to "invest it."
On another note, I remember a gal I went to school with who wore this long chain (no pendant)- I mean down to belly button length and I always thought it was so glam. On me of course it looked like you could put a saddle on me and call it a day (all I needed was reins and a bit). lol

I bought a solitaire diamond pendant from Whiteflash last year. I did an 18" chain with a jump ring at 16 1/2". I find I wear the 16 1/2" length the most. The extra 1/2" over 16 made a big difference for me. Sounds silly I know, but it got rid of the "choking" feeling Mara mentioned.
