As was suggested by you savvy pricescopers a while back, my groomsmen will be wearing pocket squares in the tartan plaid of the kilt my fiance is wearing for our wedding, since they will be wearing tuxedos and i wanted something on them to match my fiance's attire.

When you use pocket squares, do you need a boutonierre too or is one or the other, but not both?

If the guys dont get a flower boutanierre than would I have my fiance still wear one? I saw a picture on the website where we ordered our kilt from and they had a guy in a tux with a vest, a tartan square and the pocketsquare and i thought it looked nice.

ive never paid attention before. i read that it should be one of the other on a message board but is that true? i just dont want the formal wear etiquette police to find me! LOL

thanks in advance

I think it is one or the other, not both. We are using NEITHER though. I think buttoneires are stupid looking, and I just don''t see any need for pocket squares since we are having the guys in black vests and ties and I don''t want them wearing any pink

I would say it is one or the other...we are using bouts, pale pink roses for the guys, black vests, pale pink tie...champagne tie, black vest and cream colored rose for groom... I think pocket square and bouts would be overkill

oops i forgot to add a picture of what it would look like with both.

we are not doing the plaid vests, just that little pocket square.

When I was in college I worked part time at a tuxedo place (that was a fun job! What other job can you meet men all day!

) and we always said either the boutinerre or a pocket square but not both. However, most brides wanted to do both anyway.

I have a ton of bridezilla stories from working there. One that stood out was one day the bride came into the store by herself. She picked out the tuxes and she wanted the groomsmen to wear hot pink ties and cumberbunds (this was before the vests became really popular). I wrote everything down and mentioned nicely (as I could see she was a total bridezilla) that she should bring back her fiance and show him the tuxes. I also mentioned that some guys might give her a hard time about wearing pink, plus I didn''t like the look. She was pissed and said "this is her wedding.." blah, blah, blah...So a week or so later they both came back and the groom said, nicely, I thought, that he didn''t think the guys would be thrilled wearing hot pink. She got really mad and asked my opinion again. I said I think the hot pink looked too much like prom so I would go with black or a textured black. The groom said that''s what he wanted too. She threw this complete fit - screaming, yelling, name calling (her fiance, not me

). Well he had had enough so he started yelling back how he was sick of her bridezilla attitude and totally controlling everything and not letting him have a say in anything, etc. and that if she didn''t let the guys have the black ties/cumberbunds then the wedding was off! I just stood there with my jaw on the ground. She ran out of the place crying and he ran after her. I thought that would be it. A couple of days later they both came back and picked the black accessories. I wonder how that marriage worked out....

pnp- my opinion? do whatever makes you both happy!!!

jellybean- that is a hilarious story... wow!!!!

PunchNPie - I love your signature line and screenname.. I had wondered if your SN had come from Southpark. Now I know. :)

Jellybean- GREAT story. That is the exact reason why my GMs are NOT wearing pink.. lol..

OMG when that movie came out it my best friend and I could not stop quoting lines from it! that year for Christmas we each, without knowing the other was doing this, wrapped up a bottle of Hawaiian Punch and a Hostess cherry pie and gave it to each other as a gift! lol Guess thats why she''s my MOH...we''re too much alike.

JB that was a great story! I am working hard not to be a bridezilla... :)

hehe - Gotta love the southpark movie. Its so funny. I think I am the only person in the world who went to see that movie with thier parents.. And they laughed at it just as hard as me.. I am a proud owner of that and all the DVD seasons of southpark that are out.

Thats so funny about you and your friend.. Who would think of that?! I''m certainly not that creative.. heheh..

I think men in pink are very sexy...my fiance wears pink dress shirts to work all the time and he looks HOT.... we saw a very funny t-shirt the other day that said real men wear pink!
Hot pink on a groom is not my thing, but there is such a thing as a nice classy pink..

I agree. My fiance wont wear any pastel but blue but I think that a guy in a nice classy pink or green shirt is yummy!

Personally I think it looks BAD. WAY too much going on on those GMs jackets!

hey MS--

thanks for the picture! it does look a bit busy! maybe it would have looked less that way if the flowers were either smaller or less pink.

Gosh dont you just love looking at Knot bios?

I totally agree w/ MS- bout + pocket squares = too much! It looks distracting... I think I was looking more at the chests of those groomsmen than their faces, which I doubt is what you''re going for
