Does a well cut diamond sparkle less in bezel vs prong?

Hi,

I am considering a bezel setting for my H&A earrings because I prefer my earrings to sit closer to my ear. However I am concerned that it won't sparkle as much as it would in a martini setting. Is this something to be worried about?

The mount makes little or no different for well cut MRBs. A bezel might increase the contrast, but that is a good thing in my book.

Thanks Dreamer! What do you think of a pave halo? I know it's an expensive setting but I think it will be a very long time before we can consider an upgrade. The stones we are considering are a bit over 1/2 carat each and I have small ear lobes. I think the halo would give the earrings a larger look without getting a larger stone.

A bezel setting is not going to sit closer to the ear than other settings, so don't let that be your deciding factor! A halo definitely will give a much larger look and you may never feel the need to upgrade. But I think they are just a bit dressier looking than regular studs. What about getting jackets so you could have the halo when you wanted?

It is reasonable that ALL diamonds, well or poorly cut, sparkle less when more metal prevents light from getting in or out of them.

For optimum light performance the best setting would be invisible, magically causing the diamond to just float above your finger.

Ear...in this case!

When i read that i was thinking "jackets!" too. Adds the size when you want it, but give you options if you want to have them more casual.
