I've used the regular Aquaphor on my lips if they need super intense treatment. Its a sort of Vaseline-lite consistancy. Not really a *lotion* as much as a thick *gel*.

XXEDITXXX BADGER (not Beaver) Balm is AWESOMESAUCE. I discovered it by accident at a little Mom & Pop by me that doesn't even carry it anymore because Burts Bees is so much more popular. But Beaver Balm works so much better for me & has a light, smooth, silky, barely-there feel .. vs. the waxy kind of thing Burts Bees has ... or the gummy thing other balms can have.

You can usually find it at health food stores. Sometimes the pots are more easily found that the tubes. Don't have experience w/the pots so can't vouch for them. (They are more like body balms or overall balms ... not lip specific, as the chapstick shaped tube ones are).

ETA:

STOP THE PRESSES >>>> STOP THE PRESSES >>>>>>>

It is NOT BEAVER BALM. (oops) .... it is BADGER BALM. Do not be fooled by imitations!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank goodness you clarified. My mind went to terrible terrible places.
I am a lip balm junkie...my lips get chapped, painfully so, if I look at a postcard with a beach on it...so midwest winters aren't kind to me.

I think I have about 30 different tubes, jars, buckets...always go back to Vaseline....and exfoliating with a washcloth.
I also wear lots-o-Cherry Chapstick.

No Beaver Balm for my mouth. Or Badger, for that matter. But now I'm rather curious.

LOL, Oh my gosh that made me laugh so hard!! :)

I thought is was Badger....good catch :)
I had to go out and buy some of this Rosebud stuff in Strawberry, AWESOME!

Oh no its not Beaver Balm ;( i was going to buy it just for the name :cheeky:

im a guilty lip product hoarder too - its like im always on the look-out for the best lip product ever....

i do like Clarins' instant light perfecting touch something or other balm with just a hint of colour. And i like the body shop's vitamin e lip balm though i think its a bit overpriced...

I'm a lip balm junkie, too. I've tried many brands from Carmex to Burt's to La Mer and all that stopped when I discovered Lip Sugar. Love it!!

Amazing discussion.
I'm astonished how important lip balm is to so many people.

Do you who use it feel you have a medical need for it.
Or is it more of a cosmetic, or pleasure-related item?

I ask because I used to use it often and felt I really had dry lips.
Now after not using it for perhaps 15 years I do not have dry lips.

I question the need for it; but then again I live in a mild Southern California climate.

I agree Kenny, when you start using it it becomes uncomfortable to stop.

But now i live in a very cold, dry climate and i can say i need it - one day out and about without it and my lips are cracking

One day?
I wonder if your body would adjust and your lips' natural moisture level would return to normal if you went a few weeks or months without it.

I'm not saying it will.
I'm just wondering.

Maybe I'm a cynic or a conspiracy theory lover, but I just suspicious of this product - other than it's use for sun protection.

i dont know...i dont want to find out!! although to be honest before i arrived here i was travelling for quite awhile and i didnt use it at all then - but the dry air here is crazy, in the winter especially everyone turns scaly - who said there werent snakes in Canada =)

(PSA - there are snakes in Canada, ive seen one, just not likely to be found in the mountains! in any case, be vigilant...)

I completely agree, I must buy at least one every new place I go.

I told my DH about "Beaver Balm", I think that was the first time he didn't roll his eyes when I told him I wanted to buy yet another lip product  To bad it's not the real name  J/K

For me personally it's a pure addiction, like shoes or purses, I just have to have them. I would agree that's it a bit crazy but I just can't help it :cheeky:

HI:

Lipstick, lip glosses, lip pencils....you name it, but only one balm, Chanel. And yes, they are usually all in my purse at once! :cheeky:

cheers--Sharon

OK, so I've tried to find the Chanel lip balm and all I can find are their lip glosses and lipsticks, where can I find it?? Sounds so wonderful
HI:

If the link is lost it was to Saks: Hydramax. Dior Rose lip blam is also lovely....a dab alone or over a matte lipstick

Ahh, thanks Sharon! :)

I recently bought Sugar Lip Treatment by Fresh at Sephora and it's amazing! I highly recommend - def. the best I have ever tried!

If you mean the "Fresh" brand sugar lip treatment they have a great deal at Sephora, pretty much two for one! :)
http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P278006&categoryId=B70

Actually, that deal is for two lip balms that are .08oz each. The full-size ones are .15oz each. Still, it's a way to try a tinted one without having to buy full-size. I've tried the rose color that's in this set, but prefer the more recent plum color.

Nothing fancy, I use Aquaphor.

For normal day-to-day use, I love the Fresh Sugar (original). It's amazing. Once you've used it, suddenly $20.00 doesn't seem so steep.

For cracked lips...like severely chapped, which can happen in this cold Midwest climate, I like Neosporin. A small dab works wonders on inflamed lips...you're back to normal in, I kid you not, a day. Neo recently released a lip-specific product, it's okay, but if you're brave enough to try the original, it takes just a pinch and really does heal fast.

I got some Aquaphor this weekend - love it! I didn't realize it was basically vaseline or I would've bought some long ago.

Burts Bees = love.

My lips as a general rule stay chapped/cracked/peeling with or without regular use of lip products. If I ever find a cure I'll be living in a happy world.

I was using Aquaphor but it wasn't quite doing the trick.
Vaseline is working way better on my dry lips these days.

I love MAC Pro Longwear Lipcolour (in Passion Preserved). LOVE it. I put it on at 6:45 while driving to work and it lasts through coffee, lunch, snack, three water bottles, and then dinner. I like some color on my lips and it laaaaaaaasts. I forgot to bring it to the hospital with me and texted a friend while in labor to bring it to me when she visited. Yes, I am that vain and my lips are that pale. It is one of those color on one sides and smooth gloss on the other. I go lightly on the gloss and it keeps me moisturized, but any balm can go on this stain. I found that other stains would come off with an application of another balm, but longwear stays on. Even my mom thinks this is my natural color. Muah ha ha ha ha. http://www.makeupalley.com/product/...r_Lipcolour_in_Passion_Preserved/MAC/Lipstick

It takes a bit to get used to it, just a thin layer, let it dry, then a thin layer of gloss. But that is all the makeup I ever wear and it stays put.

How could i forget Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment - AMAZING stuff

I can't live without lip balm. For the last decade I've been in a super cold and dry winter climate - I have to have a humidifier in my room right now - that's how dry it gets.

I love Fresh Sugar but it's actually not doing the trick right now :( Never liked Burt's Bees, love Aveeno but again, too light for this weather.

I have to say, I'm not a lipstick or even a lip gloss person. My hair always gets stuck in my lip gloss, and I try to keep my make-up simple.

I want to try this Badger Balm!

ETA: Just checked - there is a local health foods store in town that carries Badger Balm. MUST go get this tomorrow!

Thanks for the clarification :) Sadly I did not read the fine print and already ordered mine, but it will be nice to try both kinds.

Kenny: I have never even heard of Lucas' Paw Paw Ointment, thanks for sharing a new product, sounds interesting :)

B.E.G. I was very intrigued by Badger Balm as well and also should be receiving mine in the morning, we'll see how it goes :cheeky:

I'm so excited to have been brave enough to start this thread, it's great learning about so many new tips and tricks :appl:

Ok, had to come back and say Badger Balm ROCKS. Seriously, I love it more than my Fresh Sugar, and BB costs like $2. I bought three of them - Vanilla Madagascar, Tangerine Breeze, and Highland Mint. I ended up going back today to get two more in Tangerine Breeze so I can have one in each of my regular jackets, both of my purses, and my night table. The Tangerine one is my favorite - tastes like an orange creamsicle. And it's so moisturizing and not waxy at all! Go find it people and buy!

Completely agree! :appl: I got mine today as well and I LOVE IT. I tried their tinted lip balm as well, just the right amount of color and moisture

Rissa, I am seriously tempted to get more stuff from the online store. Specifically, the cuticle care, the daily moisturizing balms, the body butter and a couple gift bags for Christmas presents. Sadly, my store only carries the lip balms and the remedy balms. I really want the body butter!

Personally, i like to use a lip stain for color, and yes, i have a few different ones, and than layer it either with gloss if im going out at night, or a balm for the day or if im going with smokey eyes. I usually put a little balm on after i brush my lips so they are super soft and o so kissable

There's not a store by me, so I got it all online. Some night time balm, rubbed some on my temples before bed and slept like a baby. Their body butter is an interesting texture like a grease or something so I wasn't happy at first but then it all rubbed in and did not have a greasy effect at all and left my hands silky smooth. :appl:
Thanks to everyone who recommended Badger Balm, I'm in love!

Swimmer - I'm going to have to give this a try. I don't have the patience for regular lipsticks these days, and I'm usually disappointed by the long-wearing ones -- partially by the consistency, partially because I get them at the drugstore and can't try them on. So far Revlon Colorstay Sheer has come the closest to my ideal, but it's not all that sheer and the color selection is rather limited. So... I'll be trying out the MAC real soon!
