Does anyone watch "Say Yes to the Dress"?

Yes, say yes to the dress is an awesome show to watch (TO GET IDEAS!!).. If you go around to different boutiques in your area u can get the same looking dresses for wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy less. When my mother got remarried, she found a dress she liked (500$) and a dress she absolutely LOVEEEEED (for 1500$)... FROM 2 SEPERATE SHOPS. The lady told her she would match the price of the last dress she tried on (im sure she just wanted the sale) but .. It was stunning!... U can usually get them to drop prices!! Good luck :)

I thought I wouldn''t spend much money on my wedding dress... and then I found mine. $3000 later, I felt like the most beautiful girl in the world on my wedding day and I wouldn''t change a thing.

And to whomever made a snarky comment about only affording expensive dresses on credit... My gorgeous, perfect wedding cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $20,000 (give or take), and not a dime of it went on my credit card. Some people who save and whose parents aren''t too badly off probably have cash put away for these sorts of things.

If I could have afforded to spend 10K on a dress I probably wouldn''t have, because I was in love with Pronovias dresses before I ever thought about my budget, and none of the ones I liked were anywhere close to that expensive. But maybe if I were wealthy enough to have that kind of budget, my priorities would have been different in the first place. :)

I''m hoping to spend no more than 1500-2000 for the dress. I think I might splurge since it is my wedding day. If i decide to buy my bridesmaid dresses then no more than 3000.

I saw the girl who bought the 11K dress. Honestly, I found it disturbing because it was very obvious that she could not afford it. She was going back and forth and sort of crying and convincing herself that she could cut corners to make it work. Based on what the girl was saying and her behavior, I got the sense that this dress was more than just a little over her budget. Her friend should have slapped some sense into her.

This is where I think the wedding industry/wedding planning can actually be pretty financially disastrous for some people. The industry does a great job with all the marketing and advertising and drilling into people''s heads that everything has to be perfect, that it is your day, that no expense should be spared b/c you must feel like a princess, your day will be ruined if you don''t have the perfect dress, flowers etc. I think it gets hard for some people to keep this in perspective. Ok, I''ll stop preaching now :)

Basically, if you can afford it, more power to you... but it is upsetting to see people in that girl''s situation feel pressured into buying something they clearly cannot afford.

We''ve had some PSers on that show before and I believe TLC pays for 50% of the dress if you agree to be on an episode. That would almost be worth it to me! You could essentially take whatever your dress budget is and double it!

I don''t believe this is true. One of the people- BlissfulBride said she got a 12.5% discount or something. This is what I was offered as well when I went to Kleinfeld''s to look for a dress. Another PSer who was on the show- Sparkalicious- didn''t even buy a dress in her appearance but they said she did when they aired her episode. Then they proceeeded to make fun of her in their clips show they did about troublesome/weird/funny brides or something. I thought it was really distasteful. I''m in touch with Sparks outside of PS and I get the impression that they totally edited the footage down to make her look nutso. I don''t believe she is like that in real life, at all.

Here''s the link to the thread where BlissfulBride says the gown was offered at 50% for appearing on the show:

Oops! You''re right. I think BB was on the show when it first started taping. I was mixing her up with Sparkalicious, who I know didn''t receive a discount as great as 50% and I''m pretty sure it was closer to the 12.5% I said before.

OK so since I watch this show a LOT I looked up on TLC's website/Kleinfeld's website if there is any discount for going on the show and they explicitly say that there is not...maybe they changed their policies?

ETA I looked this up several months ago...
