Does origin matter?

yes, i realize that the term siberian now refers to a color rather origen: however, it is a piece of the "origen" that i'm still sighing over. and the reason i am drawn to 4 Peaks is that it does have the red. i've actually done my homework on this one and still wish i had acted quicker and called he who will not be named as it seems to rile many as it did sit at his website for a very very long time. i did understand though when i did finally call that another pricescoper got it......but i don't know who.

yes, it is under rated and under valued...for now. even the very finest stones are a bargain when compared to the finest sapphire, garnet, etc.

ps personally, i'd still rather have a piece of origen siberian. it has more scintillation to my eye. but perhaps that was because it was particularly fine cut gem.

MZ-I do appreciate there is an element of humour in your post but it would be a great shame to not name a vendor - any vendor - because you thought the mention of their name might rile any other poster. I'm sure that wouldn't be the case.

I would have to admit, if I had a Kashmir sapphire or a Mogok ruby I'd probably be shouting about it from the rooftops although origin doesn't necessarily determine the beauty of the stone

Mastergems:

Right you are, if amethyst has an aristocracy, Zambia is the king, no question about it. It was unique material. Unfortunately you only find it today in the form of old rough.

Best,

Here's my Zambian amethyst, I bought it 16 years ago from a very honest dealer who specialized in exotic gems. There was no internet back then, and he sold through brochures, and very few items, but really interesting exotic gems.

Richard,
I'm unsure how fine this quality is for Zambian material, as there may be better quality, but is no one is able to obtain fine Zambian amethyst anymore? I had thought it was still being mined. This stone has a lot of blue and red in it, and in some lighting reminds me of a tanzanite. It really made me fall in love with Zambian material. Other amethyst material, even if it's medium dark toned, tends to be flat, and not exhibit much blue or red.

Thank you.
