Does Pave Diamond Jewelry keep its value?

Hi all, I am attracted to pave diamond jewelry because of its design but I am unsure if it is money well spent. A good sizable stone can always be reset and transcend fashion and time, but what can one do with small pointers (less than 0.1 carats) or pave diamonds?

Should I avoid altogether? How are small pointers (less than 0.1 carats) priced since they are so small?

I''m unsure what you mean by "keep its value." No matter if you choose pave or plain metal, if you try to sell, you''ll never get the money out that you put in (not even close). Jewelry should not be bought with future resale in mind.

Generally speaking though, would one lose less from trying to resell bigger stones vs. pave jewelry? How is pave jewelry priced if it is not branded (ie. not VanCleef, Cartier etc)?

Anyone has any experience in the 2nd hand market?

Your questions are very very broad and really can't be answered to any meaningful manner. Pave jewelry prices range a lot depending on what you are getting. It can go from a hundred bucks to hundreds of thousands. You will lose what people are willing to pay - generally speaking - branded jewelery depreciates less in the second hand market regardless if it has pave or not.

ya. Settings generally are not worth much more than their scrap metal values. Melee diamonds, depends on what cut, color and clarity, generally ranging from a few dollars in the 1 pointer range to below 200USD for the 10 pointer range. Not sure how much value that would be for a jeweler to take it back, probably none as jewelers usually has bag full of these for their projects and cannot be bothered to carefully remove these for re-use.

Ditto Charmy, get what you like and consider it an investment in your personal happiness, not for financial purposes. Rather like new cars, diamonds lose a considerable amount of value once you purchase.
