Does this seem like a good price?

Asking $13,200 for this stone, seems like a good price to me. The Gia cert shows some small 'crystals' throughout the stone but based on the clarity I'm assuming they wont even be visible. Anyone think this sounds like a good price?

The cut is below average, which is why it's inexpensive. If you were to hold this diamond next to a super-ideal cut, you would see a large difference in the amount of sparkle and fire between the two of them.

Having said that, here on Pricescope we all believe that cut is king (which it is, if you want the sparkliest diamond possible). But back in the real world, this diamond may well be sparkly enough for someone who is not a jewellery enthusiast and for someone who values size. Nothing wrong with that. After all, most diamonds are beautiful unless they total duds - we are talking degrees here - and since this is GIA certified I doubt it's a dud.

It depends what she wants. If she's a size girl, go for it. If she'd rather max out on sparkle, and have a smaller stone, then let the experts here find you a super-ideal cut.

As to whether it's a fair price for that size, someone else will have to chime in as I'm not that experienced with pricing the larger sizes. I can just tell you that the cut really isn't that fab....but as I said, maybe that doesn't matter, depending on your concerns.

I purchased a AGS Ideal Cut (000) last week for 13,090. It was a 1.64, G, SI1 (eye clean from top and side).

I think you can do better.

Oh, yes, you can do much better!

Stick with GIA Excellent Cut, at least very good or excellent on polish, and excellent on symmetry.
