I love the information provided on this site. I'm interested in getting price quotes for my current pair that I want to sell, and then buying a larger pair. All I see here for price quotes is for loose diamonds.
Do you current stones have GIA grading? If not, I will tell you from my own experience that you probably won't get a lot for them. I would just try to sell them on ebay or something or see what a local jeweler will give you in cash for them. But aside from that, yes, we help people buy studs here all the time. We will recommend very well cut, high quality stones if that is what you are looking for. Some places allow upgrades, so you need to kind of tell us what you are looking for and what your budget is.
If you are planning on selling your current ones, you can create a listing on Diamondbistro.com or loupetroop.com and then post a link in the preloved section to your earrings.
Best to post as much info as possible - colour, clarity, carat and as many pics as you can!
General rule of thumb tends to be about 70% of retail and you can get a sense of retail pricing by checking out some of the vendors on PS. Good luck!
Oooh, 70% is only for ideal cut stones, in my opinion. I think 50% is optimistic for ungraded stones or less than excellent cut. It might even be less than 50% if the person paid retail jewelry store prices for poor quality stones.
Wow! Thank you everyone for your quick replies. I purchased these earrings several years ago from Diamonds International. It came with their appraisal card (which I realize isn't worth much from a valuation perspective), but it does have the 4 C's specs. Would it help if I took them to an independent appraiser to get the information from DI verified?
Thank you also for directing me to the right places on this site to buy and sell!
I think an independent appraisal is a good idea! Just know that most jeweler appraisals are highly inflated. You can kind of judge if it is by comparing to your purchase price.
If you live near New York I have a very reputable diamond BUYER that's all he does is buy diamonds. He gave me the best cash offer for my NON certified 2.05 studs he said $3000 to everyone elses $2,000. (I ended up upgrading and using them as trade ins but his name is Stew Klein of Northeastern Diamonds NY NY [email protected]
