At this point, due to the state of the budget I am doing my own make-up.

Musey, what's waterlining?? I'm kind of a makeup moron . . .

Oh T, your approach to eye makeup is about to change...

Seriously, it's my favorite makeup discovery of the past few years.

Waterlining How-To Video

I'm not super excited about the particular results on this girl (it looks too strong on her to me, maybe because it's the only eye makeup she has on), but it's very subtly striking on certain people.

I waterline on the top lid only for a daytime look, and all the way around for evening. For people with dark lashes it can even replace mascara (for me I still need/want mascara since my lashes are so light.

WOW! I've tried to line the bottom "waterline" before, but could never get makeup to stay. I'll definitely have to
try this technique!
Is that hard to remove?

wow italia, thanks a lot :) Those tips are really good, i think i always put too much concealer under my eyes *sigh* if only i didnt have dark circles at all...bleh
As you probably know, dark circles are two things...

1. Bruises. The skin and tissue under your eye are the thinnest on your body, and ergo damage the easiest. Any pulling while applying makeup, rubbing, or even moderate pressure can make the circles appear darker and harsher. I always use my ring finger when working around my eyes, or anyone elses. Why? Because you cannot actually apply pressure with that finger without forcfully trying too--so using this finger usually allows for minimal pressure (go ahead and try it on your hand...just using your ring finger...feels weird huh?).

2. Swelling. Things like lack of sleep, stress, computer use, TV watching, video games...these are all stessors for our eyes and straining causes swelling...mild by prespective, I know, but still. Using a wee bit of Preperation-H under the eye can dramatically soothe the swelling and reduce it to almost nothing. Of course this isn''t something that should be used daily, but in a pinch it works well!

Concealor can only do *so much*...but, if you''re really worried, getting on a good eye cream like Strevectin is a great first step. It''s also important to remember that part of the dark circle is really just a reflection from the bridge of your nose...and while you may see it in the mirror, you won''t see it really in photography.

Musey, you just changed my makeup routine! I tried this last night and it looks amazing. FI evening commented on how my eyes look brighter, and you know boys don''t ever notice anything. I loved the girl''s tip of applying cream eyeliner with a pencil since I don''t have a brush that would work. Thanks for the tip!

I''m loving this thread!

Thanks for all the linkies, Musey! The waterlining one is great. Never thought to apply eyeliner under the upper lash line. Who knew?

And Italia, you have amazing tips. You could write an article in Cosmo -- seriously.

Yay! I''m glad you girls like it, too. It''s been the single biggest change in my makeup routine over the last 5 years, haha. It makes such a difference.

T, Ihavent found it that difficult to remove--but I use OCM (oil cleansing method) which gets rid of EVERYTHING so easily. You could dab some oil onto a q-tip and lightly run it across your waterline, that will whip it right off. Oil is the best.

i havent had a chance to try the waterlining yet (i dont have any yet) but fi noticed i was wearing more makeup last night and apparently he liked it lol. i guess now i can keep trying as many different things as i want without worrying that hell think i look like a clown lol i mentioned i was trying to figure out how to do my makeup for the wedding and he said i was off to a good start :)

People on my wedding day commented that I was one of the most natural-looking brides they''d ever seen. Yet I was wearing primer +foundation, 2 shades of blush (one for contouring and one to flush my cheeks), eyeliner, heavy (not dark, but heavy) eyeshadow in 5 different shades, eyebrow shadow and wax, mascara, lipliner and tinted gloss.
lol Wow! I''ll probably end up doing the same thing. But also probably with false lashes because I don''t have thick lashes.

You sure were beautiful...

You are getting there smurfy! You''ve got plenty of time. Have you thought about going to a makeup counter at Cherry Creek or Southwest Plaza (a good makeup counter like Chanel or even MAC) and have someone show you some tricks? I don''t believe you need to purchase their makeup to do this. But it''s a good way to learn......

Musey, I also have green eyes and am intrigued by this waterlining thing. What color do you use to accentuate green eyes?

And if anyone can weigh in on my bridesmaid eyeshadow color question from the first page, that would be awesome!

Musey--LOVE the waterlining video! Thanks!

Italia''s tips are great. I always use a light liner on the inside of my lower lid and the effect is incredible. I do not have big eyes, but for some reason this little thing makes them appear much larger than they are.

I wanted to echo the advice to not be afraid of wearing too much makeup on your wedding day. The last thing you want is to look washed out or tired in your photos.

Just for a comparison, I did not wear much makeup to our rehearsal dinner, but I wore a ton to the wedding. I think I look tired and my eyes look super small at the rehearsal, and then the picture from our wedding day was taken at 8 PM, which was 12 hours AFTER I had my makeup applied, and I think I look far more awake and everything.

Here''s the rehearsal dinner:

And here''s from fireworks on the night of our wedding day. We were married at 11 AM, so we had been partying all day:

I use jet-black, which will likely make any color pop next to it. I believe you can use a purple- or green-tinted black or brown to accentuate green eyes too, but I've never gone for mascara/eyeliners in any other color than black or brown, honestly.

Haven, you were such a gorgeous bride. I still can't get over it.

haven you can totally tell the difference and you look gorgeous :)

ive always wanted to go to those makeup counters but im always so nervous lol i dont know why

Thanks for that waterlining thing Musey! It''s fab! I have such sensitive eyes though that they are tearing up the whole time!

Haven, you''re such a gorgeous bride! You look so happy in that photo!

You get used to it, I promise!!! It takes a few times to get used to the application, and learning how to place it such that it won''t bug you later on.

Ditto Italiahaircolor and Musey should get together and write a book...oh right, they already are for us here on PS! I am such a make-up phobe/lover. I feel like I''m only recently learning how to use it, instead of running from it. My mother isn''t one for make up (pro''lly cause no one ever taught her!) so I didn''t pick it up as a teen. Now, I''m starting to realize how it can be appropriate in work and play situations.

I''m loving my smashbox tinted primer. I use that instead of foundation...it''s goof proof.
