I've seen a few headlines online about people "doom spending", and wonder if anyone's made impulse purchases out of stress/anxiety this time around? This could be anywhere, as there are plenty of stressful situations around the planet...

Here's an article: CTV News, Doom Spending

Last week, I may have purchased some gold South Sea drop earrings...and when I'd completed the purchase, wondered what had just happened! :???::lol:

When times get tense for me personally, I do tend to "doom spend." But when the problem lies with the larger environment, I save my pennies for my escape fund. :(

HI:

It's my BD at the end of the month---and I am not getting younger. BD doom spending, here I come!

cheers--Sharon

I practice the opposite behavior, I doom save. I hibernate.

Would love to see the earrings!!

I'm definitely not doom spending, but I'm seeing some sales and I'm trying hard to be good.

LOL! My grand earrings may not have been doom spending...it may have been FOMO for the Black Friday sales that are coming. Most times, I'm quite self-disciplined, and really, have no wants/needs in the sparklies dept. But somehow the earrings snuck past the censor.

With the usual tidal wave of Black Friday sales, I shall now keep my wallet closed.

No extra spending here ... besides those razor blades.

Can’t tell if this is a joke or if you are seriously thinking about self harm.

I suspect this is kenny's version of a kerfuffle. Really, he has the world by the tail.

Please post them on the pearl forum when they arrive!!!!!

Yes to doom spending! I keep taking the kid on holidays and feeding him expensive food (he’s a real foodie). I worry that we will be wiped out so I want to spend time with him and let him enjoy nice things.

No doom spending yet but It’s pretty much a given I will get there soon. Right now I’m still in the chocolate eating and dress buying phase. By February I fully expect to be in the doom spending phase.

That chocolate sounds pretty good, @Calliecake.

I'm guessing we'll travel. After 2016, it was a great ice-breaker wherever we went; people actually felt sorry for us. They were often more knowledgeable about the impact than much of our domestic electorate.

I have two big trips next year. The one in February is paid, and I will be purchasing the airfare for the other before year's end, just to be safe. It's in the fall, and I'm hoping it will still be OK to travel. We are also contemplating buying anything now that might have a larger tariff attached, but not sure what. Also, time to stock-up on California wines!

Cruise line Villa Vie is offering a four year "skip forward" package. Seven continents, 140 countries. Price starts around $180K each for double occupancy and $260K for single. If being stuck on a cruise ship wasn't my own personal definition of he!! I would have already booked my cabin!

I'm always in the chocolate eating phase!

Same here. They actually would start up the conversations with us in bars and restaurants and I agree that they felt sorry for us.

Slightly similar situation here - when the UK voted for Brexit and to leave the EU, the majority of Scottish voters decided against Brexit and in favour of staying in the EU but Scotland got taken out of the EU anyway. I think that "feeling sorry for us" (ie Scots) element also exists and there's definitely a camaraderie about it in work visits or online meetings (with EU colleagues).

I was doom spending due to a personal medical issue... but now that I am doing better I am doom "listing on preloved" to pay for the doom spend... LOL

Well, black friday looming sure isn't helping things for me! I'm doom-spending-planning, but more so trying to get ahead of any tariffs Canada may incur so I'm making my list, checking it twice... Wishing I knew of a non-US custom ring maker! Love DK and use him all the time but would be nice to have some goldsmiths from other countries in my back pocket, I've got a paraiba/hauyne ring to design...

This is fascinating!!!! How long does the cruise last? I’ve never been on a cruise! Hubby is one of those people who look up cruise outbreaks all the time and sends me articles.

And being the personal beneficiary of two of those doom listings, I am so happy that you did! It allowed me to indulge in some doom spending of my own!
And also, so glad that you are feeling better!

@Inked, I hope the medical issue is taken care of and you are doing well now. Were you selling any of your lab diamonds?

@LilAlex, My husband shared your same experience during his monthly trips to London.
