is it also called the gallery? Seems right since the bar above that is called the basket and the other metal are the prongs. Can't imagine what's left!

The donut would be in the shank where the head (basket) attaches. The donut would be below
the gallery of the head so in my mind it is not part of the gallery.

Some rings have a design in the gallery, but yours does not since it just has the basket. If you had some kind of design between the cross bars of the basket and the doughnut, then you'd have a design in the gallery. We think of it when there is a halo ring that has a design in the lower part below the halo, for example.
