OK, so what are my impressions?
First, the size is *perfect*. It looks big but not too big. At this point, I have no desire to upgrade again! woo woo!
I think it looks perfect on my hand. I will admit that at times it looks fake to me because it is so big
But man, you sure get used to a bigger diamond quickly
. I definitely think at some point waaaay in the future I could go larger and it would still look good on my hand, but at this point in my life, I think this is about the max size I can rock without gathering unwelcome attention or feeling conspicuous, so for now, I am sa-tis-fied.
As to the color... what was I worried about?? Ladies a J is not a K! Brian did say that he thought this J was closer to and I, but that issue aside, I agree with what Yssie said a while back about her new huge J -- it is not ivory, it is not beige, it is white white white. In most lighitng I would say it looks exactly like my G, just a weensy bit softer. I really like the color a lot. Sitting here by a window in my home, my diamond looks the same as my G from the side as well, I really cannot detect tint, but instead see a touch of softness to the body color. It is NOT yellow.
BUT, fitting my recollection of my K and others'' observations of their lower color diamonds, this diamond is a chameleon, more so than my G -- though this is going from memory. In certain lighting and in certain color rooms it can really change. Its most common color change is towards a slightly steely color, like a deepening of color to a warm grey. This appearance is also very apealing to me, and reminds me that Brian also said this stone''s body color was more steely than yellow or brown. If you want a J but are worried abotu the color, finding one that has grey undertones is a great idea because it really does not look yellow. In rooms that are brown or taupe or yellow, it does take on a taupish-brownish cast. I do recall my G doing this in some lighting, but the J just does it *more*. Again, it is not unpleasant, but it does make the center stone contrast a lot with my eternity diamonds in some lighting which, although H/I in color, look like little white balls all the time. This difference in appearance is more a function of the different optics of larger and smaller diamonds than the body color.
More pictures soon, I accidentally left the camera on all night and now the battery is toast
