Hi Ladies,

So, I was walking by a shop today and saw they were having a sale. I didn''t even know they carried bridal stuff, but they do! And I just happened upon this little number. I was all "WOW! That is one funky unusual dress!" Then it turned out that it is also ridiculously reasonably priced for what it is (marked down 60% or so) and THEN it turned out that it fits me exactly like it does the model in this picture (she and I have the same figure and colouring). It''s also absurdly comfortable. Like PJ''s comfy (almost). And would need no alterations.

It''s final sale, and I didn''t have a friend with me for trying on. THe lady said she''d hold it till tomorrow.

So, I need advice! What do you think? Is it too trendy? Or does its "couture" status make it "timeless"? Is it "too much dress" or too busy? Help!

Indy, I think this dress is gorgeous. It is definitely unique, and definitely a dress that could end up wearing the wrong girl, but from what I know of you on these boards it totally screams I AM INDY GAL'S DRESS!

You seem to have the confidence and savvy to wear this number well. But, that's just my little opinion.

It's very different and quite chic. I like it a lot, actually. I could never pull it off (the mermaid just didn't flatter me) but I'm envious of women who can.

What kind of wedding are you having? To me, that dress says a smaller, non-traditional evening wedding. Maybe at an art gallery. Minimal flowers, maximum candles.

EBree: Funny you should say that because we are having a smaller, non-traditional evening wedding, maybe at an art gallery.

Or possibly at an extremely hip, up-to-the-minute restaurant / hotspot. And we'll probably use more ostrich plumes than flowers too!

Thanks for the compliments ladies!

Keep the feedback coming!

Oh, I love that dress, especially if you have the figure for it! Its Nicole Miller? I was drooling over her metallic crinkly fabrics and overall floaty beachy style but mermaids are not for me, the full price was not for me, and my more traditional FI really wanted me in white (or at least ivory).

Anyway. Have you shopped enough that you could love this dress with no second thoughts? Did you put it on and really like, at least as much as anything else you tried on?

If so, I vote buy buy buy! It will go fabulously with an arty venue, and if you want to make it more bride-y, a nice long veil would do it.

Also, the silhouette is pretty timeless (very old hollywood) and color is still a nuetral; I think the pictures will age well.

After dinner I said "FI, Nicole Miller is having a big sale this week and I might go buy some things. Come look at the website and tell me whether you like her stuff..." (we look at the summer collection) "Hey, she does wedding dresses! What do you think of them?" Then he scootches through the pics "Boring Boring Boring ... but I LOVE that one!"

The "that one" in question is, uh, the one in question. Hurray! I guess you'd sort of expect the man who picked out the Infamous Bulgari Engagement Ring to choose THIS dress from among all the pretty simple white ones.

I'm keen on hearing more views about the trendiness issue... or just in general!

I know I've already given my opinion, but...

- You found a unique, funky dress, in your size
- It fits almost perfectly
- It's on sale
- It's perfect for your venue
- Your fiance loves it

It seems to me like a winner. If you decide you love it, snatch that baby up!

Hmmm... when you put it that way, it''s kind of a no brainer.

I''m going to see if I can get a friend to go down there with me tomorrow and if she gives the nod, I think I''ll go for it.

I''m kind of surprised at how scary it is to commit. It''s the most important dress I''ll ever wear, after all.

It''s unique with a classic touch, fantastic colour, beautiful, and very YOU!! I envy you for being able to wear those kinds of styles (I''m very curvy!) so I say go for it!

I like it a lot! I''ve actually been planning on going to the Nicole Miller near me to try on her dresses in this material, including this one! I had the same concerns as you about looking like a fashion victim, but honestly, I think most bridal dresses end up looking dated in 10 years so I figure I might as well get one I like right now! If it looks great, feels great and is priced great, I say go for it!

I like it for you. It will be perfect for an art gallery or a post restaurant type wedding like you mentioned having. It is trendy, but it''s not the type of trendy you''ll look back on and say, "ugh, what was I thinking?" It''s the type that makes people who look at your wedding pictures down the road say, "Oh, you look like a movie star from that era."

Yeah!!! I love this one!!

The main thing is...HE DOES. Everything was meant to fall into place like this for you. The sale, his interest, the delimma with your other find...

This one exudes the elegance you want. It is a contemporary refreshingly avant guard look. Perfect to express your unique style and the theme of your setting.

Who needs girlfriends when you look like the model? It was made for you! NO ALTERATIONS. Get to that shop right now!

I''m so glad you found a dress!!! You and your FI love it, and as you said, it fits perfectly on you and the price is right. If I were you, I''d get it in a heartbeat. I''m so excited for you!

It''s not "the style of the moment" so I wouldn''t consider it the least bit trendy. DKS read my mind -- it''s unique, avant- garde, cutting edge, fresh, and beautiful. Personally, I love it and I think it reflects your inde spirit. My only concern is that the dress makes a very strong statement that would overwhelm some people. I''m guessing you''re not one of them... if you are, you might need to really play up your features on the big day.

I ditto MINIMS completely!

Well, I bought the dress. I brought a friend with me and she said she thought it was gorgeous, but not as glamorous as the dress with the mink. But what really sold it for me was remembering what it felt like to sit down in the dress with the mink (NOT comfy) and feeling like I was in a cosy stretchy silk nightgown in this dress (it''s lined wonderfully).

I noticed a little easy-to-fix problem with the zipper and managed to haggle them down to some ridiculously low price. I mean, I think most brides pay more for their bridal underwear than I paid for this dress. So I''m feeling like, hey, if I find something I like even more, I can easily a) wear one to wedding part 1 and the other to wedding part 2 or b) sell it or c) wear it to parties and fundraisers.

A lady in the shop suggested that it woudl look super-great with a very high hairstyle, so now I''m thinking about that. I''ll also wear platform shoes to tall-i-nate me a little more.

Hurray!

Yay! I love it and I bet it looks great on you! You should post a real life pic if you can!

I like it too. Very elegant in a trendy way.

Your dress is HOT.

I don''t think trendy is the right word to describe it. It''s just very unique and different from typical wedding dresses that it''s hard to classify it as "classic".

I just ordered about 16 pairs of serious platform shoes from Zappos. In this dress, the taller the better. Of course, falling over would not be good. It would sort of shatter that statuesque look. So I guess I should get a "practice pair" too.

I'm also going to get some spanx. Just in case. I've put on about 5 lbs since FI and I started eating together regularly.

Oooh, what kind of shoes did you order? Link it up if you feel like it-I LOVE shoes!

Well, here's the pair of platforms I'm most coveting! They're Fendi, spring collection. I won't be getting these though, sadly. I actually saw the white patent version on sale at Neiman Marcus, but stupidly didn't get them. Phooey. I wonder if they're still around anywhere for a reasonable price?

But wouldn't these be perfect under that dress?

YES YES YES. And, by the way, LOVE the dress. I think in a gallery, especially, it will be magnificent!

So, in a word, WHOOO!

OMG YES! But you saved so much money on the dress, I think you should get them! I''ll definitely be using my wedding as an excuse to get a ridiculous pair of overpriced designer shoes!

Not that I usually have an excuse...

Seriously, those are sick. I might have a temper tantrum if you don''t get them. Hahaha!

Hmmm... You may have a point there. After all, I am currently well under alotted budget for bridal gear. But just so''s we understand the silly extremeness of this potential shoe purchase, these here l''il darlings are almost

Six

Hundred

Dollars

On SALE.

The part that kills me is the white patent ones were on sale for $200 at Neiman. ARGH! Why didn''t I just GET THEM!!

Indy, congratulations on finding and buying a great dress! Can''t wait to see pics of you in it!

Inde- I think it''s awesome!! Love it

Indy, I LOVE it. It seems to be perfect for you and your venue and I am sure it looks great on. It is great to be a bit non traditional. I can totally see that in a funky space, versus a very traditional one. Is it that color?

DF - yes, it''s that colour. They call it "antique white" but it''s kind of like a silvery white. It''s a silk underlayer with some tulle around the bottom, and then the top layer is made out of metallic fibres.

Oh, how I wish I were about 5 inches taller.

But let''s see how those platforms do for me.
