DRESS CONFUSION... Should I keep it and alter it, keep it and do nothing, or try and sell it???

Would you feel comfortable, support-wise, if it were strapless. I think the reason most strapless dresses don''t have such low backs is because there has to be something there for the, uh, ladies. I personally would not feel confident that a dress with a low back that was also strapless would be prepared to stay up through dancing and other craziness you might bring its way. I also think a low back and a halter sex up a dress far more than strapless does. And, it looks really good on you as is. But, you need to feel great in it and about it.

LOL 3 dress bride.. no way!!! LOL As far as the reception dress goes, we aren''t really having a reception per say. The resort offers options to pay extra money for a private reception but being we are staying at an all-inclusive resort my fiance'' and I are thinking we''ll just have everyone get together for dinner at one of the restaurants on the resort. Who knows. We''ll probably just wait and see how things are when we get there. So far it''s just going to be our close family members there so it won''t be a huge thing. I think I''ll get a shorter white dress to wear at dinner that night. My fiance'' also mentioned the other night that maybe he and I will just have a private dinner on the beach the night we get married. After all, we are getting married at 10 a.m. and have the entire day to spend with our family members. I dunno.

Maybe I should just listen to the majority of what everyone on here is saying and just leave the dress the way it is. Maybe I should concentrate on what I''m going to wear on the evening of our wedding? LOL heh heh

dani, i say keep this dress, i would hate to see the eleanor get ''trashed''!! haha! ok even if it is just at the swim up bar and splashing in the waves

I like it better WITH the straps. Looking at it again, the sash isn''t bothering me either, it''s at a perfect height from the front!!

I still say leave it as it is.

ficklefaye-good point.. I don''t think I could do that to sweet eleanor though!!! LOL

merrymunky- I go back and fourth about the halter vs. the strapless... thanks for your comments though. The strap that you are referring to is just the beading accross the dress. It''s a dropped waist style which I really like. I love the dress from the waist down just second guess the top part. I wonder if I had the seamstress remove the padding and crap from the top part if I would like it better? who knows.. I''ll know more Saturday :) I''ll definitely give you guys updates! Thanks so much everyone :)

Your dress is so beautiful!!! It really looks great on you - and is VERY sexy in my opinion. I just love it!
I agree with some of the other girls though. You really need to love your dress and pretty in it. If you are not going to feel that way then you need to find another one that "does it for you!"

I think that dress is gorgeous- and can be altered to make it look like more of what you want. if you''re afraid you''ll always look back and say "it was pretty, but not what i wanted/dreamed of." then it''s time to keep looking. my mom looks back at her wedding pictures and says her dress is hideous, but it was all she could afford and thought it looked "nice" at the time.

I got my dress at filene''s basement''s "running of the brides" event. it cost $250, and orginally was over $1000. if you look for some sort of event like this, you can get another dress (they had hundreds there to try on) and don''t feel bad at all for the value i got for my (mom''s) money!

My sister mentioned the running of the brides thing. She said they had it in Cleveland where she used to live and her girlfriend got an awesome dress for cheap. She said they made "Team ____ " shirts for everyone that was helping her find one. I think that''s awesome. I''ll look into it. Thanks :)

What if can''t sell your dress? If you really don''t want to be a two dress bride, how long are you going to wait? Chances are it may never sell. Just playing devil''s advocate.

It looks great, BTW, I love that dress for a beach.

If it doesn''t sell then I keep it no biggie. I just think I can find something that looks better on me overall. I''ll still wear it on my wedding day and be happy.. I just need to get over a couple of things about it. It''s no big deal. I can put money into and make it exactly what I want if I decide to do so. After reading everyone''s responses on here I think it has helped me to realize that whichever option I choose, it''ll be alright. :)

Like I said I''ll know more on Saturday after I talk to the seamstress to see what she can do. It could just be the padding and the stupid plastic strip things in the top part of the dress that is making me dislike the top part. Plus I think I said it in another post that all my second guessing started from me listening to a comment a co-worker made about the dress.

I really appreciate everyone''s help and insight though. It''s making me feel much better about everything :)

I know you won''t know anything more until Saturday, but wanted to throw in my .02. I think the dress looks FABULOUS on you! The halter neck, along with the ruching, dropped, waist, and glitzy detailed belt give you an incredible hour glass figure! The dress is uber sexy and while the fabric may not be 100% beachy, the style is very much so!

My thoughts on the Maggie "Eleanor". It looks gorgeous, but I just don''t see it as a beach wedding dress. It is so delicate, detailed, lacey and sparkly, it feels more formal. Just my honest opinion.

Looking forward to hearing what the seamstress has to say!

ilovesparkles- thanks girlie :) ur cute. i love maggie''s "eleanor" but I agree with you about it not being so much of a beach wedding dress. but boy oh boy it''s beautiful :) :)

thanks for your thoughts. it''s funny how much listening to strangers really helps out. i''m getting it excited for saturday :) who knows maybe when i put the dress on again i will just love it like i did before. it''s at my grandma''s house so i don''t get to see her to often :) LOL thanks again

OMG, I LOOOOOOOOVE this dress!!!!!

Sorry, can''t help my excitement here. I tried it on and didn''t buy it because it was too expensive for me (and the FI didn''t like it). But the slinky fabric...the body-skimming silhouette...the simplicity of the design...the plunging halter...it''s just so sexy. Plus, the way the ruching on the bodice is...it''s just SO slimming. I don''t think I''ve ever looked as thin and shapely as I did in that dress.

My obvious opinion is to keep it exactly how it is. It is gorgeous and sexy and perfect for a destination wedding! I don''t think it works strapless...this dress was really meant to be a halter. Some dresses work with alterations, and others don''t. This goes into the don''t pile.

Plus, it would look just fabulous in an underwater TTD shoot.

jstarfireb- Your FI didn''t like it? Yikes! That scares me. Why didn''t he like it? I wonder if mine won''t like it either...

Yeah, I''m starting to agree with everyone about not altering it into a strapless. What dress drama!!! LOL

I think if you''re going to do "trash the dress" ... it may be safer with the halter (as in, less chance of losing the dress, depending on how rough you''ll be getting- rolling around in sand, swimming, etc.). I think it looks fabulous on you with the halter top!

Hi Amanda... good point. I''m thinking I''ll ask my seamstress tomorrow what the options are and talk prices. Then i''ll just go from there. I totally agree about the halter being easy to take more "action type" pics. I''m hoping that it''s just the padding and plastic strip things that are making me uncomfortable with the top part of the dress. I dunno. Thanks for your help :)

yayyyy for meeting my seamstress in like 4 hours!!!!!!

I should clarify that my FI didn''t actually see that dress on me, just a similar halter/trumpet style from DB that I actually bought. I exchanged it for a different one when I found out how both he and my mom felt about it (bad idea because then I had to spend $375 altering the new one which was so totally not me - shoulda stuck to my guns!).

Keep in mind that these are my groomzilla''s very specific tastes and probably don''t apply to your man. He didn''t like the style because (1) he has very traditional tastes and wanted me in a princess dress; (2) he said mine didn''t look "bridal" enough and that it looked more like a bridesmaid dress; (3) it was too simple for him, and he wanted beading/embroidery and a longer train; and (4) he claims not to like halter straps and wanted strapless or spaghetti straps. Eventually 4 ended up being a non-issue because I added a halter strap to my final dress, and he begrudgingly admitted that it wasn''t so bad.

Hope that helps! At any rate, it''s a gorgeous dress that I would have been proud to wear.

Yayyyyy!!!! So guess what??? LOL I went to my seamstress and all she did was pin the dress so that it actually fits me better around the waist and straps on the halter and I fell back in love with my dress. The dress in the pics is the sample dress they had in the store and it seemed to fit better then my actual dress. So when she pinned the dress to fit me the way it should and explained to me about making the pleats on the top part of my dress more flat and formed to my body I was super excited about this dress again. I had no idea what kind of a difference getting something altered to actually fit me would do. I''ve never had anything altered before ever so I have no experience with the stuff. I''m soooo excited!!! I''m taking it back to her to get altered in December and when I go for my first fitting afterwards I''ll definitely take pics. I can''t believe how much difference it made with just her pinning the dress to fit me. I feel so stupid!!! Thanks for everyones help but I am definitely keeping it the way it is!!!!! WooooHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! :) :)

HAHA- YAY! congrats on the dress of your dreams. We all get those little jitters- I''m so happy you worked it out!

I am so glad to hear your update!!!! I think the dress is elegant, sexy and it looks fabulous on you. IMO it loses something when you converted it to strapless. You are going to be one knockout bride!!!!
