I went dress shopping yesterday and I am torn between a few lacy dresses (all pronovias/la sposa) and one organza gown. I am getting married in the Caribbean with only my immediate family present. I NEVER imagined myself in a lace dress- I thought flowy organza was my thing- but a line lace dresses seem to work on my body. I''m about 5''2 and a size 0-2. The first dress would be taken in a bit to be less full on the bottom, but I think it hides my hips. There is also a halter piece which would be removed. I have really wide hips for my body and I''m scared the lace accentuates this...please give me ANY opinions you can! Thanks!

Whoops- attachment didn''t work.

Here is one of the lace ones- there are 2 other lace models I like.

sorry- having trouble attaching this morning!

LOVE the second one! Absolutely gorgeous!

I love the second dress on you!

The flowy lines of the lace dress seem to work better on your body than the sharp architectural ones of the organza dress.

Here is a second shot of dress #1- the full body. Most of the excess would be cut off. I just feel the lace might be formal and makes me look "hippy".

Are there more photos coming?

So far, honestly, these two are "eh" for me. The first dress looks a lot nicer in the second photo you posted, but seems to swallow you a bit (too much ruching, maybe?) and the second doesn't seem to have a very flattering cut.

I think your figure would look awesome in something a little more fitted with a different bust line- maybe a slight sweetheart, like the first.

I''m not surprised that you are torn. They are both beautiful gowms. On the basis of the first pictures you posted my instinct said dress number 2. The lace looks beautiful on you and I love how the light catches it, making it shimmer.

Then you posted another picture of the organza dress and I again said WOW! In that second picture it looks much more flattering. It fits your body well.

I don''t think I am much help here am I?!

I still say that lace one is jst heavenly though.

I think I need a more A line lace dress? Here is why i think the lace one in the photos makes me look big in my hips: (ps- is there a way to put multiple photos in a post??)

I think your figure looks fine!!

But if you are conscious and want to hide an area that you condsider to be a problem then it might be an idea to go for an A-line dress. I am a plus size girl and in my A-line dress I felt a million dollars. I barely noticed my problem areas (ok I was sucked in and actually had a waistline thanks to the lace up dress) but even my mum said she didn''t even notice that I looked big! And I am BIG! (UK dress size 24-26)

I think you would feel more comfortable if you could see for yourself that your problem areas were concealed. I still think you don''t have to worry about that though!

I agree with merry- I think your hips look great in a more fitted dress. You have a teeny little waist, too, so I''d pick something to accent that. It all comes down to what you''re most comfortable in, though. If an a-line makes you feel more comfortable, that''s what you should look for.

OK, i unfortunately disagree with all above posters b/c i LOVE the organza dress on you! I think it fits you so well, and i imagine it would be muuuuuch more well-fitted if it was your size (i can see the clamps in the back). It''s soft and flowy and romantic -- plus, i think it makes your figure look very svelte!

One other thing....i am not sure you could look hippy - your figure is fabulous! Please stop worrying about that - you don''t need an Aline dress for your hips, (unless that''s what you like iin general). You would look great in any fitted style

Thanks to everyone for the help!! I am probably a 4 in bridal, these were all 12s or 14s. They were able to clamp the lace dresses, but it was hard to clamp the organza since there are bones/wires in it which are WAY too big for my body.

This is a photo (on someone else) of a lace La Sposa that I prefer to the mermaid one that I''m in. Decisions Decisions!

I actually think the more fitted dress (in the second photo) looks great on you! You have a great figure (not hippy at all) and, if you''re comfortable, should show it off.

That being said, I wouldn''t stop looking yet. It doesn''t sound like either dress speaks to you.

I''m curious, was one dress heavier than the other? I tried on a few lace Pronovias that were beautiful but they also had beading and were somewhat heavy; something I didn''t want for a warm-weather DW. I did end up finding one without beading that gave me the look I wanted without all the weight.

I am not trying to be difficult, but you have an AMAZING bod...you should show it off. All I have seen so far is kinda, well... blah.

Sorry! I am a bit hippy, but wore a mermaid style. It was pretty snug (there are pics on here but I am lazy today).

Keep looking, find the one that you adore and feel like a model in!!!!!!!!! GOod luck and don''t get discouraged.

Lol- I wish! The second one is a no- I prefer a more A-line lace dress I think, like the final photo I posted. Still debating #1. The thing that draws me to the organza one is that I think it''s more appropriate for a tiny Caribbean wedding than lace. Beach brides- any opinions? Is lace too formal?

My dress is head-to-toe lace and I''m getting married in Playa del Carmen, MX. Don''t think it''s too formal at all. I did find that the dresses with lace AND beading looked more formal than I wanted, though.

I'm not a beach bride, but I don't think lace is too formal. It may be too hot, though, depending on layering and beading.

Here's a Maggie Sottero I found that's the same idea as the first dress you posted, but it might show off your figure a bit better (the one shoulder/flower is detachable). It's one of her Destination dresses, made from chiffon with just a little beading for sparkle It still has ruching, but quite a bit less.

While they''re nice, I don''t think that either of them are "the dress". They don''t seem to show off your great figure as much as they could. I''d keep shopping. That dress that Ebree posted is beautiful.

Ditto. And I loooove lace dresses, but in this case, I think the organza dress drapes beautifully around your (very non-hippy!) body.

ETA: I'm not seeing the La Sposa for a Caribbean elopement + family. Would be a bit too formal for me.

Nice choice Ebree! I love this one!

I also think the others look nice on you, but you don''t seem to be GUSHING over any of them so it doesn''t sound like they''re really perfect for you. I think your hips look fine, but I also think it''s important that YOU are comfortable. So if something makes you feel hippy, even if you don''t look it, it''s not the best choice. You want to feel nothing but beautiful on your big day!

Thanks for all the advice and especially the link Ebree! That is a very pretty gown, but I do not want anything one shouldered/asymetrical (fiance especially dislikes for some reason- he is very traditional).
I think I might check out one or two more stores in New Jersey, where things seem to be much cheaper and then make a decision. I was in love with the organza dress from the online photos. It has a halter which made it more special, but in person, the halter looked TERRIBLE. I just think its a great breezy/beachy but still a wedding dress. BUT, i''m going to keep my options open.
This is the dress on a model:

For a beachy destination wedding, yes to the organza...no to lace with glitz.

The first dress is breath taking! I hope you chose that one lol

I actually don''t think the first dress accentuates your curves enough, honestly, but it is my pick out of these two dresses. I really like the first dress, I just feel like the dress you use to show how you don''t like your hips makes your body look much better. However, like Merry, though, I do think that if you don''t feel comfortable, you won''t feel comfortable and you will have much better photos if you are fully comfortable.

Have you thought about J. Crew dresses? I think the Goddess dress and the Genevieve dress would both work for your body type and are fuller.

Thanks for the opinion. Part of my leaning towards dress #1 is that it will look much more flattering in my actual size rather than a size 12 that''s clipped. That''s true with any structured dress though. I wish stores carried 2 samples- a big and small one.
Anyway, I love the goddess dress! It''s just so relaxed and flows well. It was one of my original pics when I thought I was going to go the Nicole Miller type dress route. However, once trying on "real" dresses I decided I wanted one...even for my 10 person wedding! I am starting to agree that lace + shimmery beading might be a bit much...

I like the first dress you posted, but I really like the Maggie Sottero (SD5220) that EBree posted. Did you notice she said the one shoulder bit was detachable? That would get rid of the asymmetrical issue your FI doesn't like.

I guess in the end I'd pick the organza look over the lace and sequins. But either way you'll make a gorgeous bride! Good luck deciding.
