I spent the last week visiting my family in Michigan. While I was there, I went to three bridal shops and tried on a bunch of dresses. I finally found one that combines most of the features that I love into one dress: It has a strapless lace bodice, a ribbon sash, a simple a-line skirt, and buttons all the way down the back.
However...
Of course it''s more expensive than I wanted. The bridal salon I was at had it for about $1600. I was hoping to spend less than $1000. Does anyone know if there are other designers who make a similar style, but less expensive?

If it comes down to it, I may be willing to pay the extra to have it. However, I still have some time before I need to order a dress and I thought that maybe you lovely ladies would be able to help.
Thanks!

Here are some pictures:

That dress is gorgeous!!!

I dont know of anything similar that would be cheaper, but im sure someone else will chime in like MS and have an idea for you.

Good luck!!!

Have you tried finding the style # and getting a quote through RK Bridal or Pearl''s Place...that could save you tons...pretty dress by the way!

saturn- what designer is it? you might be able to find it much cheaper by online/mail order.

i tried on a dress that''s very similar by paloma blanca, no bow but a ribbon around the waist. anyway, if it''s a paloma blanca I ordered one by mail order for about 2/3 the retail price.

check out rkbridal.com and pearlsplace.com

PM me if you want more info.

Thanks everyone for your help!
The dress is Paloma Blanca style #3608 - I think that it''s a newer style.
I''ll look into the mail-order services. Any additional suggestions are welcome too!

Oleg cassini (David''s Bridal) makes one with a lace bodice with ribbon around the waist and a chiffon skirt and train. Go to their website and click on Oleg Cassini and it is on page 3...#9158.
I tried this dress on and it was beautiful...my second choice actually.

Good Luck

How bout something like this but adding a ribbon..

I don''t know.. That Paloma dress is just AMAZING though.. I can''t find anything that even comes CLOSE!
When is your wedding again?

I don''t know if this will be helpful or not, as it is an even more expensive version of the dress--but I was just in my dress shop and saw Monique Lhuillier''s "Antique"--which looks exactly like the dress you posted, Saturn. Sometimes having multiple designers dresses to cite when calling dress shops is helpful.

I must say though, when I saw "Antique" in the store, it was absolutely gorgeous. It was the first dress I''ve seen that made me question whether I bought the right one...

Have you considered going to a seamstress to get what you want? If I had it to do over again, I think I would have gone that route.

Wow...that is my dress. I just found it this weekend. I got all exited to see it again. Pearls Place quoted me 1089 for it, with no tax either. That just sqeaked in around what I could justify spending, especially since it fits like a glove, and I need no alterations. I hope that helped you. I know that they can be found cheaper in canada as well, since that is where they are made, and the exchange rate helps.

~~That dress is gorgeous (it reminds me of a Monique Lhuillier gown). If you don''t find any similar styles that you like, and since you have some time before you need to order your dress, you may want to find out when that particular bridal salon will have a sale. They usually have sales (where everything is like 40%+ off) maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Good luck!!!!

I called RK Bridals and Pearl''s Place, and they can save me a fair amount. Now the real question is, is this dress the one?
I didn''t cry when I put it on, but I don''t think that I''m the crying type.
It was the first dress that when I put it on, I didn''t want to change a single thing about it. With every other dress, there was at least one feature that I didn''t like and wanted to change.

However, it is still somewhat expensive, and I feel kind of bad about spending so much on a dress that I will wear for so little time (I''m getting a second chinese-style dress to wear for part of the reception). Most of my friends got very inexpensive gowns (less than $500) by buying second-hand dresses or getting really good deals. And my mom keeps making comments about how I always seem to like the most expensive dresses I try on. Plus, I come from a family of BIG TIME bargain-hunters. So even though I could afford it, I feel like it would be kind of greedy or selfish to get a dress that''s more than twice the cost of my friends.

I''m so conflicted! Part of me says, I should get the dress that I want and can afford, and not worry about it. The other part says that I could probably find a dress that I would like almost as much for less money; then the savings could go towards more worthwhile causes.

That thing is gorgeous--I say go for it. A good friend of mine had the attitude of "why spend so much on my dress when I''ll wear it once" and bought a cream colored bridesmaid dress for under $300. It was pretty, but after the wedding her one regret was not getting something nicer....so go with your gut if this dress seems to have everything you want. YUMMY!!!!!

~~I agree with blueroses, go with what you feel. If you really love the gown, and wouldn''t change anything about it, I think you should buy it. Plus, this is your wedding, and you don''t want to have any regrets.

I had the same conflict. Although hardly fiscally responsible, I went for the "this is the one time I will have the opportunity to wear a couture dress, so I''m going for it" option... Would I make the same decision again? I don''t know--I think there is a lot of logic in the inexpensive dress option. Oh well!

Saturn- I didn''t cry when I tried on the dress that I bought. Hope that doesn''t mean something. I feel like I did glow and I felt like a bride. I got looks of "ohhs" and "ahhs" from the other people at the store. I FORGOT however to make sure I can dance in it. The skirt is pretty full. Oh well. Nothing I can do about it now. I think that the dress should make you feel good and beautiful. Only you know if it is the right one for you.

saturn-
You can always hold out for a bit - when is the wedding? I debated forever about my dress, and I never got the 'this is the one' feeling... but over a few months of searching I finally realized that 'the moment' was just not going to happen, and I kept going back to one dress I liked... and so I finally bought it!
If it's a new style like you said, it's not going to be discontinued anytime soon, so if you have the time, just wait a bit and see if you change your mind - it can't hurt, IMO!

That being said, I do love that dress, and I hope you get it! (plus, I love paloma blancas.... bc I got one too!! I really liked the silk on mine... it felt so light and comfortable!) hehe.

ETA: RK does price matching minus 5%, so you can knock off another 5% from whatever pearl's place quoted you. I did that. Kinda nice, and pushed the total under $1000, which was my original budget! Yay!

That is my dress!!! i decided on it just this weekend. I saw it at 2 stores the prices being ~1500 and 1700. Ive heard some bad things about getting stuff online, so im really hesitant (despite the fact that I'm very frugal- not cheap- frugal) to get anything offline. And i couldnt find it on the RK site, stuff kept messing up. I felt slightly better when a friend told me that her sisters wedding dress cost 7000, thats right, thats not a typo, 7G's, so at least mine isnt that. and like everyone says, get what you really want. The only thing about the dress that concerned me is i dont like the bow being too floppy, so i might starch it or reinforce the back or tack it down somehow. If you do anything similar or have any advice on that I'd love to hear from you.

Why not justify it by getting the dress online from RK or Pearls Place and then reselling it after your wedding (using either ebay or another reseller)?

That way, you get the dress you want and a little money back, plus you''ll be helping someone else find their dream dress at a reduced price?

Another option would be to find a cheaper dress and get the lace and sash added? I did that and had a dress that looked a lot more expensive than it was (and made to measure).

That dress is GORGEOUS!
The fact that you wouldn'' t change a thing sells it for me.
I didn''t cry either, kept thinking that I would since I cry at commericals, everyone else''s proposal stories, etc. There were no tears,
just a clear reality that this dress was perfect.

Good Luck!

I love the dress! And if you can save money by getting it online, thats great.

I do want to say, when i first tried on my dress, i really like it. But didnt think it was it. I mean you hear how people say they just ''know'' when they try it on. I didnt just know. but every dress after that just didnt compare. I would like another dress, and when i got home i would say "well it just isnt as nice as ''that'' dress". so go try a few more on, and see if you are still comparing them to the paloma.

Hi!

I went to see that same dress (Paloma blanca 3608) at a store in Montreal (the store''s name is Vezina) and they are selling it at $1650 canadian dollars, plus taxes (15%) . I also loved it!! The quality of the materials is unique. Tell me, did you buy it already? if you did, where did you buy it and how much did it cost you?

Beatriz - I actually ended up getting a different dress.
Here''s the thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-ordered-my-dress.35749/

I still really like the Paloma Blanca dress, but it was just too far over my budget, even with all the suggestions offered here. After calling around to various sources, the lowest price I found was about $1100, plus tax. When I found a Casablanca gown which I liked just as much for 2/3 the price, I decided to get it instead.

I totally agree with you about the quality. The raw silk skirt is gorgeous! And I did have a few moments of mild half-regret when I saw a pic of Appletini in the Paloma Blanca dress: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/i-found-the-dress.38109/

So, are you going to get it?

I don''t know, because just like you, I find it expensive for one day... I am a very logical person and to be honest, I am not the kind who will spend that much money on a dress that I will never wear again. I thought of reselling it after the wedding, so at least I would recover some money but I am affraid if it gets dirty and I cannot clean it... what do you think?
