There are some legal protections that a couple can do without getting married, such as naming each other as survivors, including each other in their wills, owning property together, and granting each other power of attorney in certain situations. Of course, even more protections come with marriage (hence one of the reasons given for marriage between homosexual couples). My guess is that they''ve taken most of those steps, but just haven''t gotten married.

Oh. I guess that shows my ignorance on the topic, huh? Oops.

exactly. thanks for explaining it! It makes them happy, but I figure if you''re going to go that far, why not just get married? I did tell her she could say she was waiting until all couples are allowed to marry and she liked that idea. And since she lives in Virginia, that may never happen.

I''ve heard that two of the professors at my school (in Virginia) are in a serious relationship and waiting to get married until all couples can get married. Hmmm, I wonder how many VA couples are doing this?

And don''t worry about it, fisher!

I guess since Easter''s over, this thread is done.

That''s sort of sad, since I''m only allowed to visit two.

Oh well. I should be cleaning the house now, anyway. That, or working on my scrapbook. Or walking the puppy... options, options.

I think we should probably find a couple more threads for you. I''m sure there are others that are suitable. We just have to proof them for you! I think you need a lot of what we have to offer here! Being a L-I-W is tough! We need each other!

Yeah, I need other places I''m *allowed* to go. Please.

I like popping off comments to you girls. It helps.

I heartily agree. Since you''ve been talking about how frustrating it is at times for it all to be a surprise, the recent "Surprise, Schumize! THOSE BOYS!" thread would probably be good. I prescreened it, and only girls have responded so far. If you like to dream about the wedding, "What planning have you done?" might be a good thread. Only girls there too, but there are some LIW graduates posting as well. Gosh. I''m seeing a bunch of girls-only topics. Are there any things in particular that you''d like to vent about or get advice on?

We can try to scope them out.

Other LIWs, would you consider those topics to be safe?

Those are on my list for her too! I think they will help. I''ll also add "Boys are so silly!" as ok, as well as my "Apparently his friends are ready" thread. There are more that are ok than aren''t, but we can''t tell you which ones aren''t because you''ll want to go there!

Give us some topics and I''m sure we can present threads to you!

Here are a few more "pre-screened" threads for you:

How do you address your future in-laws?

Diamond update

Wait longer for more expensive e-ring?

Raised eyebrows over SO''s words..

I am dying! He has my ring!!

HE BOUGHT IT!!!

Maybe...

Thanks, girls.

I''ll have to visit the "he has my ring" tomorrow. I''d absolutely pee my pants with excitement and GRRment if he had my ring and STILL didn''t ask me. Sounds like it''s a bit cruel.

Those of you who know my boy, please, please make sure he knows this is NOT a good idea for him to do to me.
