Hi all,

I just did something really, really, really stupid and I KNOW I probably shouldn''t worry b/c my education on PS tells me everything should be fine but it would be nice if you all reassure me or worst case counsel me in case I am wrong.

I work at a hospital (ABA therapy for autistic kids, part-time/grad student) anyhoo, we keep all patient charts in this super filled filing cabinet and I have been in there before looking for charts and cut my fingers etc. as they are packed in there so tightly.
So I have to go in there today to find 8 charts and I figure I don''t want to hurt my e-ring so I go to slip it off my finger and put it in the pocket of my hoodie just until I pull the charts and then I think I''ll put it back on....
As I slip it from my finger I DROP IT TO THE FLOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily the floor of the room is carpeted but it is the really thin crappy office/hospital carpeting and SO I''m wondering do you think my poor e-ring is ok????

I immediately examined it and ran my finger along my girdle and felt nothing and saw nothing and I checked to make sure all the diamonds in the band are there and that the teeny diamonds on the basket are also there and they all are and my center stone doesn''t feel loose or anything.
So just for reference I am 5 4'' and I had my hand at waist height when I took it off and dropped it and it only hit the carpet once then came to rest.
Please tell me what you think.

I am beyond upset that I could be this dumb...I shouldn''t have taken it off to begin with let alone being a butter fingers and dropping the poor dear.
More info, my ring is from WF so I can''t just have the person who made it inspect it to make sure she is ok

The center stone is a 2ct RB and there are small diamonds all around the band and then the basket has teeny diamonds set all around it, they are all set in plat

This just sucks I have my loupe at home so as soon as I get home (I feel like leaving work right now) I''ll check on her and make sure there isn''t something I missed.

Do you think it will be ok?
Thanks for listening

Seems to me like you are freaking out big time for no reason. If you looked at it and everything is in tact, why are you so worried still that something is wrong with it? Im sure its fine.

Oh, honey, please don''t sweat it. I can''t even tell you the number of times I''ve dropped my ring. I think it''s safe to say that nearly everybody has! If you''re worried, simply stop by your jeweler tonight so he can check it out and ease your mind :)

I can''t tell you how many times I have dropped my ring on carpet. No problems yet. STOP FREAKING OUT. Dropping it on carpet is better than smashing it onto the wall (also done that) or even banging it on a desk (again, can''t count...). If you dropped it from 2 stories up and it landed on marble or concrete, I''d be concerned. It landed on carpet from your pocket... even if you are especially tall, that''s not that far away. If you can''t see anything wrong with it, there probably isn''t anything wrong with it!

Just don''t bash it with a hammer.

And try not to take it off because I was sure you were going to say you lost it in the filing cabinet and now can''t find it!

When I got to that part I thought she was going to say she lost it down a drain or heater in the floor! lol

Dreamgirl I agree with you but I think I needed to hear everyone say it so I could read it and let it really sink in sounds silly but it works for me.
I guess I''m being super paranoid b/c this is the first time I dropped the poor thing.

NewEnglandLady thanks so much it''s nice to hear that it happens to everyone and that typically everything turns out fine. I think I will have a jeweler take a look just to be sure but I won''t be able to go until tomorrow. I''m sure they''ll say it is fine and I''ll loupe it tonight too just for my peace of mind.

sum thanks for your response too. I WON"T Take it off again b/c I did realize as I was posting this that it could have been way worse I could have lost it somewhere in the hospital and I don''t think I would ever have seen her again. I like to think that most would turn in a lost ring but we do a lot of outreach with very destitute communities and I''m not sure if everyone who passes through our halls would be a good samaritan. Nothing against disadvantaged folk for sure and we see mostly kids but according to our security people hospitals are constantly cased by theives from outside walking around acting like patients.

I''m just glad it was carpet and like you said not marble or concrete. I''ll be more careful but it''s nice to see it happens from time to time...sigh I feel so much better

Thanks a milliion lovely ladies!

Awe hunnie take a deep breath.Everything is fine. Just check and make sure no stones are loose... that would be my only concern. Diamonds are stronger than the worlds strongest man. hehe You should be fine. I knew a friend that dropped her ring down the garbage disposal and then turned it on ( I know I know

) miraculously it was unscratched and not damaged!

Oh gosh, we''ve definitely all done something like this. I dropped mine from shoulder height onto laminate flooring a few months ago, picked it up and shook it next to my ear - RATTLE!! Argh! Had to get it tightened but that was the extent of it. I''m sure yours is fine but I would definitely do the ''rattle test''.

Dream ha ha you make me realize how much more awful this could have been, there is a rusty old heater right next to the filing cabinet! EEk!

HeadOverHeels thanks and wow your friend is super duper lucky good for her, unscratched from a garbage disposal I wouldn''t have believed until you told me that it actually happened and the ring survived.

IrishBreakfast thanks for the tip just did two rattle tests and no worries all appears to be well yay!

Thanks again guys!

haha oh that would be bad!

I myself need to hear from others quite often on stuff too. I also tend to worry a lot, so I understand where you are coming from! I mean, have ya seen my posts? ha!

Im sure when I get a ring I will be the same way about it.

You could always take it to your jeweler to have it checked out just to ease your mind. And heck maybe they''ll clean it for you while they''re at it!
