Hi all!
So, I was wondering (I know that I am going to get some daggers thrown my way for asking this....but) is there really a difference between EGI, GIA & AGS? I ask this (not ask this not being as oblivious as you all think, but) because I seem to have found a good diamond however it''s EGI rated so quite a few people are REALLY trying to steer me away from it. It''s specs are all adding up to a great stone and it''s price is unbelievable (hence to why I can''t seem to pass it up)! I would like to add that I am new to this site/forum, but I note that when I do "pricescope" my diamond request I come across mainly EGI rated stones....so I ask again, can they REALLY be all that bad?
HELP :)

Welcome!

The many EGL diamonds you see with a search are some of the virtual stones which are owned by the cutting houses/ suppliers. Very often vendors have to call these diamonds in on request.

This info may be useful as to how the grading labs rank... http://diamonds.pricescope.com/grading.asp

There are those who think that some branches of EGL such as EGL USA are more accurate than some others such as EGL Israel, Europe etc. However it is possible to find a good EGL stone certainly, I have one myself. So it can be prudent to make the sale final on the diamond checking out favourably with an independant appraiser.

One thing to consider - EGL diamonds can be more difficult to resell or trade in than GIA or AGS diamonds, so if you ever plan on upgrading and using this diamond towards another, this may be a consideration.

Do you know which branch of EGL graded this diamond? Also you are very welcome to post the proportions if you like so we can help you judge the cut.

yeah go AGS or GIA. dont go EGL
