Hi everyone. I am currently looking to replicate this ring that I saw at the a maul store. I''m looking just at the center ring, not the side bands.

Inspiration ring

I tried it on and the size and proportions are perfect for a right hand ring.

I am in the process of contacting LOGR to customize this setting for an emerald cut approximately 3/8th of a carat and in yellow gold.

LOGR setting

Now, my dilemma is this. My engagement ring is a princess cut, which I know quite a bit about. But emeralds...that''s a whole ''nother story! I''m clueless.

Would these specs be worth looking at? And is it approximately 3/8th of a carat? I''m not sure how many points that is. I would prefer to stay under $350 for the stone itself.

Price: $339
Carat weight: 0.31
Cut: Fair
Color: D
Clarity: SI2
Depth %: 75.1%
Table %: 65%
Symmetry: Very Good
Polish: Very Good
Girdle: Medium to Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 4.38 x 3.34 x 2.51 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.31

Thank you in advance!

Hi vanilla

Its hard to say without images but although depth doesn''t always relate to face up size in fancy shapes, this is a bit deep and the Fair cut grade isn''t a good sign. Is this diamond being sold online or is it from a jeweller? Also even in a stone of this size it is possible it isn''t eyeclean being SI2 clarity, step cuts often need a higher clarity grade to avoid visible inclusions. I would keep looking personally.

Thanks for the reply! It''s a stone from Blue Nile. Do you think the SI grade would matter in stone that small?

It could matter yes, I have seen visible inclusions in stones of that size, all you can do is ask your BN rep if they can find out for you if it is eyeclean but they do have a good return policy in case you weren't happy. With the cut of the stone though its a gamble as you know without images....

And you are most welcome, glad to help!

I think you might do well to contact someone like GOG and see what they can pull in for you? Right now this is the only smaller EC they have:

Have you read the facy cut tutorial? It may help you pick some contenders.

Its so difficult without images Vanilla, really buying blind without. Without images we have no way of properly judging the cut unfortunately, is this latter stone from Blue Nile also?
