Hi,

I have a loose diamond which is due for appraisal on Monday.

Does anyone have any recomendation on where to buy a setting and/or get it set? I dont know much about settings - what are the options for emerald cut - number of prongs, platinum versus white gold etc?

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

first you need to decide if you want your future fiances input or not. if you are buying from a pricescope vendor, most can have whatever you want made. i would peruse Tiffany and co for traditional classic settings, artofplatinum for more blingy, or more distinctive settings or any other vendor or designer listed here for ideas.

I agree with Bgray. Is this a surprise or something that she'll have input in? If she has input go to some stores and browse. T&C and Cartier and some of my favorites for browsing. Go to places known for their colored stones as well as diamonds if you are looking at EC's. A lot of lovely settings for EC are set with EC cut colored stones. Do searches on here for settings. Browse Show me the Ring... a lot of folks have some gorgeous settings.

If it's a surprise... then tell us more about her. What's her style? Vintage, contemporary, classic? How does she dress, what is her home decorated like.

Here's a nice thread for you to start browsing: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ecs-show-me-some-life.82527/ it's a compendium of most PS step cut rings.

One of my all time personal favorites is Kellyfish's ring even though it is an asscher center (square octagonal step cut) not a rectangular octagonal step cut.

As for where to buy... it depends on what you want, and what your budget is. Once you've settled on something... post a pic and ask for recommended vendors. We'd love to help!

Congratulations!

Personally, I went with platinum (specifically 950 Pt/Ru alloy) over white gold, because I believe it has better durability and longevity and less maintenance (no re-plating for example). Setting style depends on your preferences, I went 4 single claw prongs made by Leon Mege, if my diamond was larger I would have gone double claws. Some people prefer ribbon prongs or bezel settings, it''s up to you
