OK, Psers. I'm turning 50 this year and I've never had a decent emerald. Help me find one. (Or a nice finished piece.)

Here's the parameters:
I'm fairly patient, so no huge rush
I'm also a klutz, so a pendant
$1000 or less
Size not really an issue, but something I don't need a microscope to see
No hearts, no marquise
White gold or platinum; I don't wear yellow gold
There's a very good chance a loose stone will get sent to Danielm for setting.

There's a couple on Gemfix that caught my eye, but my knowledge of emeralds could fit on a 3X5 notecard with space left over.
You gurus know who you are. I'm at your mercy. If you think the price point is crazy, tell me.
And TIA.

Have you tried Embassy Emeralds?

airplay,
I saw those stones of Dana's. Is it just me, or are they a little on the light side? Nice that they're not treated though.

Chrono,
Good grief, they've got some nice stuff. I'm assuming cedar oil treatment is OK for a stone this cheap? As much as I love Elizabeth-Taylor-quality stones, I need to eat.

Kismet,
Cabs are fine. It's a really pretty piece. I wonder if they would be able to tell on treatments.

I checked their website several times today. *drool!*

Think hubby is gonna ban it from my browser.

There's a 4-5 carat emerald for about $500-600! It's not the best quality. I so want! It's pear shaped, and I'm not really into pear. I could see that baby in a double halo ring. I'd sacrifice "quality" for size and color. I don't mind the imperfections. If and when I do get an emerald, I do want the imperfections as long as they don't cause it to break, chip, etc.

Good luck on your hunt, texas!!

I saw this as I was poking around RubyLane this morning. The color looks nice but it's a cab and he doesn't mention anything about treatment. http://www.rubylane.com/item/682191-v109-18kwx20emeraldx20diax20necklace/Estate-18K-White-Gold-Emerald

I thought the name of the seller sounded familiar. Weird that they're having a sale on Ebay, but not Ruby Lane.

Mastercut's emeralds are definitely on the light side, which makes them more affordable and this type tends to be less included as well. Cedar oil treatment is standard in the industry so it is something to be expected of emeralds of all quality levels. Do inquire as to the level of treatment though - the less the better.

Just so you know, embassy doesn't update it's website often. There are a few sold stones still listed.
